If you liked BG there is a good chance you will like this game. The main difference is in BG there are NPCs and in IWD you form a party at the start no NPC's can join.
Have you read any Fallen Realms books. It is basically another crystal shard story. In the story you start out in Easthaven and become part of a mission to go to Kuldahar as something is terribly wrong. Animals are behaving funny, strange weather, people are disappearing. Your job is to find out what is wrong.Along the way you will solve quest and get clues to guide you to your destination. That is the basic story without any spoilers. If you get the expansion that is a whole new story. |

Sorry, I was just doing something and couldn't answer before.
pritchke has assessed it succintly. There is some minor NPC interaction/side quests, though nothing major. If you can get 'Heart of Winter' (and the downloadable 'Tales of the Luremaster') these add new areas and lots of extra feautres but are not essential to the main story. Get HoW if you can, 'cause it's really good. Essentially, IWD is for people that prefer there Infinity Engine games to be a bit more martial, and less cerebral then the BG Series. There's lots more fighting, and less of the (game-) driven role playing element. Most of that you make yourself with your party creation and the things you do.

Another great thing about IWD, especially coming off the BG series: no learning curve! Nothing bugs me more than buying a game that doesn't come with a written manual( gotta' do something at work!) and only has a file for a manual( personally I'm not interested in printing that thing out). But if you've played any of the BG games, you can install IWD and play. That simple. (oh, and patch it too!)
Also, if you didn't know, you can play BG as a multiplay game, choose the serial connection and create your entire party that way too. But this is about IWD afterall. [ 09-30-2002, 07:33 PM: Message edited by: Peytin of Rothmire ] |
