Does anybody know if they're planning an expansion to the game? Should they do an expansion? I hate to see the infinity engine die out, even if it's getting a little long in the tooth.

Goldbox...Infinity Engine...???

They are not planning to do an expansion, and have said so many times...however, I wish that they would and I would like to have one. I am supposing it depends on how many sales this game makes...and how troublesome it would be to put one together.

I didn't know they had actually said they werent doing one. The guys from Team BG, looking at the internals of the game itself were saying it definetely looks like they planned to make one .I hope they do

So how would one make one's deeply interested, deep interest in an expansion known to the people responsible for IWD2?

I hope you are right. I want an expansion as much as anyone!

Here are a few news articles I read concerning it, though.

Expansions:
Feargus has said it before: for RPGs, expansions usually aren't worth the development and publishing costs, and they usually aren't as well-received by the public. The six months of development time that you might spend making an expansion would probably be better spent on making a new game. IWD:HoW made us a good chunk of change, but was it really the best thing for us to do, from an economic or consumer-appreciation standpoint?

On and expansion:
Would I like to do an expansion? If I had to, I wouldn't scoff at it - I'm not as bitter as the other BIS vets. But an expansion is not likely. However, if it were, I'd like to do it with a mix of the Underdark (under Icewind Dale, naturally) and the Abyssal plane; with heavy emphasis on the Blood War beginning to intrude on the prime material plane. I really like to create a lot of gray areas in alignments, and not make evil and good so cut-n-dry. I'm weird that way.

Expansion pack plans:
We are not working on an expansion in any way, shape, or form. There are no plans for an expansion, no hopes for an expansion, and certainly no resources for an expansion.
Quote:
Chad Nicholas (Sciptor)

Expansion pack plans:
Anyway, there is no expansion pack. One isn't being worked on. One isn't even being planned. No one is even thinking about a story for an expansion pack. No one is even thinking about an expansion pack. Period. The only time someone from BIS thinks about an expansion pack is when someone asks about it; but only enough thought is put into it to come up with, "No."

Even if they were making an expansion... Don't you think it's way too early to consider it?

Colour me impatient. And curious. And impatient again. I'd like to see my characters progress past 16 without reading the exact same dialogue twice. Anyway, it can't hurt to ask.

Thanks for the quotes Larry. Unfortunately decisive they seem, though I liked what the one fellow said about including the Blood War. Maybe some charitable soul will come up with something like the free expansion they did for IWD1...Trials of the Luremaster was it?

well from the points of rulez -

i don't think the do one - look together with the Heart of Fury Mode u can (will) reach level 20 and beyond

there arn't any (reall) working rulez for it
but maybe ....

a complete new game ...

subrasses meets subraces ...

yepp for an asimar champion and a thiefling bountyhunter ...

would be great - isn't it so ?

Or should they come out with a special edition version with improved feats like drow specialities on combat feats or other sub-races specialities

Guys lets forget about the expansion and start bullying them into sequels
Or even a totally new Forgotten Realms setting adventure with the new and nifty 3E rules. HeHe you know they're saying that 2D PCRPG's are obsolete *BUT* IWD2 was received much better by the public (and critics) than NeverWinter Nights.

I think with NWN they rushed it big time, made it out to be something huge and when people finally got their hands on it they were dissapointed due to the high quality that was promised. Don't get me wrong some people love it but as I said, the reviews and reactions were generally mixed.
My question is : Why not just keep on making the 2D IE games while they work on perfecting the newer 3D ones. In the long term it holds less financial risk as these games have acquired a huge consumer audience and it's already something the designers consider familiar ground. The system itself at this stage, is almost flawless, I feel they should stick to what they know - and what we want
