Demon battle missing (spoiler)

So, I had finished Durlag's Tower and returned to Ulgoth's(sp?) Beard, and did what I needed to reach the Demon. I got stuck there, and gave up for a long while. Now, when I have reinstalled the game and copied over my save games, the demon is missing... I go downstairs, and there are no cult members, not priestess, nothing. My solution was to try to start from my last auto-save, in which I still have soultaker... but once the cult takes the dagger, Durgan(sp?) won't talk to me and allow the story to progress. Any help here would be great... I'd like to be able to finish this quest.

Hmmm....there must be some funky variable setting that, for some reason, wasn't carried over with your save game. I hate to say it, but I don't think you'll be able to fix this. Hopefully, some of the Old Grizzled Campaigners with more indepth bug-fixing experience than I have encountered this before.

Thanks for trying to help. I may try to find a save game editor of some sort and see if that will let me get at any funky variables I missed by copying the files. If anyone else has further advice, of course, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
