It seems that this variety of monster in Durlag's Tower are tough fighter/mage types. Any advice on how to dispatch them with minimal fuss?

a 'magic missile' to take care of their 'mirror image'
if you feel it's needed - 'dispel magic' to remove 'haste' (although I personally don't think it worth it) Charge in and hack them to pieces/make pincushions out of them P.S. there are a few encounters where it is better to retreat and let them come to you - namely when the GD casts 'stinking cloud' or cloudkill'

My Danish friend is absolutely right - one magic missle and a couple of good tanks surrounding the shapechanger is all you need. Their haste isn't really a problem, or so I find, as long as you ensure that the doppelganger goes for your toughest fighter (ie. the one with the lowest AC) then you're fine.

WOW had i known i would come across Shapeshifters like that i wouldnt have sold that sword LOL. But, the dopplegangers are manageable- they are damaged a LOT by arrows/ranged attacks. If you can run them around a bit after a guy running, you can minimize the damage they do. Bless, Aid, or some other protective buff seems to maximize the damage you do and minimize their damage.
