I've finished Baldurs Gate II & Throne of Bhaal. Do you think It'd be a let down playing the first Baldurs Gate?
I loved Baldurs Gate II & haven't found a game close to it, but I don't know if Baldurs Gate I will be a let down. What do all of you think? |

Well it depends on your perspective and what you like out of a game. I've read posts where people like you found the BG1 experience refreshing but others were completely disappointed and bored by it. You need to realize that BG1 will play a lot differently than BG2. The biggest difference is that instead of being an all-powerful Bhaal spawn running around with high level abilities, you're a level 1 nobody who will find a lone wolf to be a worthy opponent. There's also the matter of NPC's. They don't talk as much in BG1, not even close. BUT, there are 24 or so to choose from unlike BG2's 14. Another key difference is how the areas are set up. BG1 is very open for exploration. There are tons of unnecessary areas that are just there for your amusement where you can do side quests for a little more experience or maybe find some treasure or an NPC. If all this sounds like it would be fun, then I say give it a try. You can probably buy BG1 for around $20 nowadays so it might be worth it.

Personally I ALWAYS start my character in BG1 (and TotSC) and then continue with then all the way to ToB. I think it adds to the fun to have risen all the way from a nobody leaving Candlekeep for the first time to an (all)powerful Bhall-spawn
So in closing: By BG1 and play it [ 05-20-2002, 04:35 AM: Message edited by: Ar-Cunin ]

I tend to do the same start in BGI and go all the way through. I do love both games. In BG1 you are not as plot driven so you can runaround a lot and hit the chapter parts when you want. I do miss the NPC interaction though

But, of course, the main reason for playing BG1 first is that the PLOT is actually pretty darn cool! You actually experience suspense, and you're amazed how twisted the bad guy's plot really is! But if you've already played BG2, you learn all that in the opening movie. Talk about anticlimactic. BG1 first.
