there's a locked residence in beregost. You can unlock or bash the door enter. there's a noble named as gerard travenhurst there. what to do with him? persons beyond locked doors are ALWAYS unimportant?? I mean locked houses are justfor loot?

When you reach Nashkel and Baldur's Gate you'll find some quests and good items behind locked doors - so check them all.
You can just rob the nobles - that what they are there for  Also don't forget to check for 'hidden' doors in the buildings where the doors aren't visible.
