Portraits

I already did a search in the forum and its archives, but nevertheless I cannot seem to fix my problem. I have downloaded some additional portraits from sites recommended in the FAQ, but somehow I can't seem to make them work. When I installed the Valen mod this morning, the Valen portrait *was* working properly, and the only difference I have found between that portrait and the ones I downloaded is the fact that none of the downloaded ones seem to have a horizontal or vertical resolution -- whereas Valen has 71 dpi in both.

Is this a problem? How can I fix it? [img]graemlins/1ponder.gif[/img]

And yes, I know all the portraits should be in BMP (my first error), 110 x 170 for the larger ones etc., AND the name for the portrait shouldn't exceed the 8 character maximum. This is all fine, and still it won't work! Help! [img]graemlins/crying.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/scream.gif[/img]

this happened to me too. open the file, double check the res and size, then do a save as, then try again. worked for me

And the file needs to be in the correct directory BEFORE you start the game. If you add the file while BG is running, it won't detect it until you exit all the way out, and then run the game again.

Well, the files are all in the portraits folder and I can see them just named just fine when I click the "Custom"-button when I want to choose my portrait, but somehow they won't show up properly.

I have tried renaming them, I've tried saving them once again, but nothing seems to work. What am I doing wrong. Does it have something to do with the name of the file? Can't the game handle underscores ("_") for instance?

What are the length of the filenames. It must not exceed eight characters.

i dont think there are any issues with characters. I can suggest a re-boot, of the game and the computer... it is incredibly frustrationg i know, make sure the res is 72dpi

Hmm... just out of curiosity, did you download .jpg(s) from the website? Some websites use .jpgs for their thumbnails. You need to click on the thumbnails to go to the actual .bmp files.
