I just want to know which weapons to give to Korgan.
Im using hammers and maces myself so the big fat hammer will not be his'.
Im currently dualwielding axes with him now but good axes are rare!
Im not thinking roleplay here as much, but I would really know what weapons to give him!

I like to equip him with an axe. You'll also find a nice axe in ToB .

The Stonefire and the Frostreaver. I never equip him with anything else

I think he's better with one axe and a shield. I'd suggest spending additional proficiencies on Sword & Shield style and Warhammer.

The Frostreaver is the best weapon for him in SoA. I suggest siding with Bodhi in Chapter 2, so that you get the best throwing axe he can use. There's a great hammer for him in Trademeet as well.

The additional bonuses from using a shield will make him the best tank in the game, and he'll do just fine switching shields from time to time and "only" using axes and hammers when he becomes grandmaster in both of them.

Tyrion,

I'm surprised I must say that you think that good axes are rare. There are several +3 axes around; and Lost Prophet's suggestion is exactly as I would do for most SoA battles.

Is your party going to have anyone with points in Flails (FoA), Katanas (Celestial F), and/or Long Swords (Black R)? If not, I wouldn't discount the option of putting some points in one of these for Korgan, as the bonus effects of each of these weapons are significant.

... and don't forget to put Ilbratha in a weapon slot just for the Mirror Image!

Krunchyfrogg,

Sword and Shield Style (bonus AC vs. missiles)? Why not Two Weapon Style? I would suggest that any kit that can put multiple points into Two Weapon Style seriously consider dual wield, as the best form of defense is attack!

IMHO Two Weapon Style is only really worth it if your off hand weapon provides some benefit other than one extra attack, with a penalty. Now, if you stick Crom Faeyr in that offhand, and make attacks with a 25 strenght, we're talking. But I don't think there are any axes worth putting in your offhand in this game.

Tyrion,

What happened to that Cavalier solo / Cavalier + Aerie duo anyway?

Krunchyfrogg,

I see what you mean about off-hand axes ... the Axe of the Unyielding is probably the only contender of note offering much other than extra damage, and it would almost certainly be a main hand weapon for Korgan.

Personally I'd still go with Stonefire and Frostreaver dual wield in general battle unless he's really taking a pounding; he's got high HPs and a decent AC anyway without tossing Berserker rage on top of that. As earlier, I wouldn't dismiss the idea of specialising into other weapon types to make the most of their special abilities.

I've got nothing particularly against the use of AC boosting shields (versus excellent specialty shields like; Balduran, Harmony, and Reflection), but I'm still not too convinced about putting points into Sword and Shield Style.

My suggestion for the style stems from having nothing else to put points in after specializing in warhammer.

I would think about giving him Kundane in the offhand. Obviously you need two points in two weapon style before you try that. But you don't really need any points in short sword to make it worthwhile - the extra attack with Frostreaver is worth giving up a shield IMHO.
