According to D&D rules, 9 INT is average intelligence. No bonuses, no penalties. Box of rocks would have to be at least 5. (Minsc is 6, I think.)

Penalties? My Beserker has INT 5. What penalties am I subject to? Sure he's awfully stupid and all but is there more to having 5 INT? Am I suffering un-necessarily?

First off, Dundee is saying that Mindflayers can kill you pretty easily. Also, no offense Too Hot, but your Pally seems to be a bit of a power character. if you don't know about the power gaming issue, please, don't ask, the last thing we need is another discussion and argument about it.

You think 5 INT is bad? My first play-through character, a Human Undead-Hunter, had 3. 3!!!

An INT lower than 7 or 6 means you cannot talk correctly. You get orcish stuff like: Me big, me good, me smash evil! 9 is indeed average, and pretty good for a warrior paladin, since they mostly want to smash evil without arguments. an INT of 3 just means you dont understand what normal peasants are saying, so is basically an unplayable character.

Do these stats include magical items or did you use tomes from BG1?
Indeed a powerful warrior but powergaming does not depend on stats anyway but more on equipment/tactics you use.
