OK, I am rather new to SoA, having only started playing it a few days ago. I was just wondering about a few things, namely the special abilities for my main character (eg, when do you get them, what if you are multiclassed etc.) and the thieving skills, (what happens when it goes past 100, is this 100% or just another 100).

All these questions are probably answerable in the manual but upon looking in the box, I discovered that it had gone "missing" (the joys of having a little brother) I later found that it had been hacked to bits with a stanley knife.

Any help would be appreciated!

In the base game, you start with all the abilities you're ever going to have...eventually, stuff will happen around them, but that would be a bit of a spoiler. Thieving skills are weird...don't think of them as percent, really...because I find that I need about 125 or so, after modifications, to really be perfect at a given skill. Go for pick locks and find traps early, then go for the stealthy ones...I find that, unless you go for cheesy traps, those are the best choices.

Just a couple more questions...
Ive noticed that my main character (fighter/mage/thief) has a special abilities set traps ... what is this ? and how do I use it? I've tried setting a trap but when an opponent walks through it, nothing happens. Is something supposed to happen (I could be mistaken I will just have to try this out again)

oops just reread your post and suddenly understand about the sticky links...

Thanx for the help so far

You thought correctly about the Set Trap ability; with that you can set a snare which will damage enemies who walk over it. You must watch closely, because if you're not proficient enough in setting traps (which is a thieving skill) setting the trap might not go right (i.e. you'll see this appear in the feedback

CharacterName: Set Snare
CharacterName: Set Snare Failed

Or something fairly similar.

sorry for the confusion!

your set traps is actually one of your thief skills as well as a special ability - when you assigned you percentage skill points when you created your F/M/T it was at the bottom of the list and you might not have seen it because its outside the wondow and you need to scroll down - its probably quite a low percentage chance of success but its (arguably) not the most important thief skill yet anyway

F/M/Ts are great characters but as they divide their experience points between the three characters they increase in level very slowly in a full party - needn't be a problem of course, just something to be aware of

have fun
