I must relly stink at ordering my battles!! I see posts where folks have said level 21 -- you should breeze through Watcher's Keep. Well, I struggle, but I digress. I have not, in two night, been able to defeat the Aurumach Rilmani mage (the one who casts timestop). I can't seem to hit him with any of my weapons and my anti-mage spells (dispel magic, breach, pierce shield, warding whip) don't seem to disable his protections. All his lackies go down in chunks but not him. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

I don't remember for sure but he may have spell immunity- abjuration cast on himself. If that's the case then all abjuration spells won't work. Dispel magic, breach, pierce magic, etc. I recently learned that there is one dispelling type spell that is not an abjuration, Ruby Ray of Reversal. This spell is a life saver. You might have to cast another spell like secret word first to take care of his spell shield if he has one up. Then RRoR and breach to disable his weapon protections.

BTW don't knock yourself for not breezing through parts of this game. Probably most of the people who do breeze through have played it over and over again. Knowing how to use magic in this game is very important though.

Try busying him with summoned monsters, while your party retreats, then send the odd summoned monster out to test him, watched by a hidden thief or Wizard Eye. If you keep away from him he will ignore you, and in time his protections will come down.

The blue guys right?

In my experience, he seems to be immuned to all level 1-9 spells, so only Dragon's Breath and Comet will hurt him. You also need a +4 enchanted or better weapon to strike him.

Did I mention that he is immuned to traps too?

I love him,.. they could have made that man so incredibly more powerfull !!
In my game, he casted Rigtheous magic and some other stuff + timestop and then proceeded whacking my summons .. he did a constant 21 damage per hit with a nice ApR. My summoned werebears were being knocked unconscious and flying all over the screen when the timestop ended.
They should have given him a chain-contingency with some nifty clerical spells ( 3 x storm of vengeance is fun ) ... A little harm during a timestop would be fun too
I bet that if you improved his script he'd be allmost impossible ( spells not really touching him )
And with a Chain contingency and maybe a trigger too, you could make him a stoneskinned, mirror-imaged, improved hasted and wat not tensored fighter coming down on you with the Black blade of disaster, doing max. damage on each hit during a timestop ....
