Well, i was i bit bored so i started again with an entirely self created party, using one imported character (pc)

Nimbul, Fighter lvl 10, dual Mage lvl 16 (tankish and spell caster)
Beren, Cavalier (tank) lvl 13
Dwimnor, Dwarvish Cleric lvl 13 (tank)
Mazarna, elf Stalker, lvl 12
Maltros, Elvish Archer, lvl 13
Morwen, Fighter lvl 8, dual thief lvl 11

and for some reason, this party is unstoppable! i have just finished the Asylum, and as of yet, only Maltros has died in battle, and i have found very little battles very challenging, (i may put the difficulty level up), i found firkragg hardish, but i killed him first try (most of my characters near death, and maltros dead.
I am enjoying this, i thought this might be interesting that this combination is very effective

i know, its not the great character (except my fighter/mage, he rules) but for some reason, that combination of characters is soooo good

Custom characters are always stronger than the predefined ones. Reason is clear. They are well created so that they have better stats and, from the point of the player's wiev, their proficiences and skills are distributed better.
If you have found a party of 6 custom characters rather boring then reduce the number of characters in your party. I like to play a party of 3 dual class custom characters:
ranger/cleric
kensai/mage
swashbuckler/fighter

Ever since I took a long, hard look at ToB, I've really come to appreciate the power of Multiclasses, and my personal Dream Team is a party of 3 Elves & 3 Half-Elves, all Multiclassed.

I found that in BG1, a party of Archers was pretty good.
In BG2, a mage-thief, a few tanks, a cleric-tank person and a archer can go a long way.

Hey everyone. I just won BG2!

I know having an extra 5 custom characters is bound to be powerful, but after what I just went through finishing this thing for my first time, I can only guess that you guys are either awesome players or are on a lower difficulty or autopause. I played on normal, real time with a Mage. I got her and Imoen to level 17 each and had 3 Time Stop scrolls, Spelltrap, Absolute Immunity, etc. With a Chain Contingency Storing two Limited Wishes(for Time Stop and Wail of the Banshee) and a Simulacrum. Each had a Spell Trigger and a Minor Spell trigger and a basic Contingency with more defensive spells. Fortunately I got lucky and won the battle on the tree with two Time Stops left. That is all that saved me in the battle in hell.

My mouse fingers are throbbing and I swear I can recite the verbal component of every spell in the game in my sleep. Every time I thought this game was over it just kept on going.

Overall this has been one of the hardest games I've ever played, and certainly the longest and hardest RPG. I can't imagine winning on the hardest difficulty without custom characters.

Mosts/Bests

Most Reloads:
1, Jon Irenicus(Tree of Life battle, Contingency/Time Stop show down)
2, Adamantine Golemns(any time)
3, Jon Irenicus(Hell)
4, Mind Flayers/Illithids(Underdark)*
5, Beholders/Elder Orbs/Gauth(Underdark)*

* I'm comparing the whole missions to individual fights.

Best Game-Generated Character:
Valygar(Family equipment among the best in the game, no searching to get the power...)
Jaheira
Imoen()
Yoshimo(darn shame he is a backstabber)

Most Powerful spells:
Chain Contingency
Time Stop
Spell Trap
Horrid Wilting
Summon Nishryu
