Gay romances?

I've just started out on Baldurs Gate SOA and think its great in comparison to part one, I just have one teeny inquiry about these character romances i've been hearing so much about.
During a trip around the first town my newest accomplice 'Aerie' started to comment on Jaheiras hair and how nice it looked, with the druid telling her that she has no time for romances and is basically bitter after Khalids death!!! Um..last time I checked they both were girls...is this normal!? HEY i'm all for realism and equality in Baldurs Gate but can't help wondering if it's some insane bug invented by the Gods and their twisted humor? Help me out!

This is normal but their not in a romance or anything - there is no homosexuality in BG out of the box.

You can force any romance including homosexual ones with console commands, or get a patch from baldurdash that allows all four romances to run concurently. The text assumes a straight relationship though so there are inconsistencies.

There is a project to create a proper lesbian romance though if your interested. If havent seen on for a gay-male romance, but ill bet someone somewhere is thinking about it.

and I wish they woudl finish it. I do not mind CULA the romances for me but it woudl be nice if the speech fit being girl girl

There is an NPC mod -Cloe-in the works which is the first "pure" same sex romance between the PC and an NPC.
Also Galadria is developing an Imoen same sex romance.
Have a search at the ToB forum for more details on that one.

Well i'm glad I got that sorted, thank you to all for your help and quick replies - I actually think it's
very open-minded of Baldurs Gate and would'nt be surprised if we see more development on such things in the future.

But in the upcoming games i'm half expecting inter-racial relationships and I don't just mean human/demihuman romances....("You have recieved an invitation to the wedding of Baron Hartglave and his Myconid fiance, please be in the vicinity of the lower underdark by 12 noon").

An Imoen same sex romance is not only homosexual, it is also incest because she is the main character's sister. SICK!!!!!!

There is already a gay romance available: the Solaufein romance mod is basically gender-neutral (in other words, the romance runs the same for male and female PCs and is written with deliberately unisex dialogue) although I believe I've heard there's a bit of gender-specific conversation in the later portions.

I believe the Tashia author made her girl-girl ready with a patch and that the dialogue doesn't necessarily imply a masculine PC, but I'm not positive.

Plus, there is already an NPC whom the other NPCs suspect/imply is gay: Valygar. (Viconia and Cernd, at least, mention it.)
