...I just bought Icewind Dale and the expansion pack...Cool more from forgotten Realms...but I´d like to be finished with BG2 before I venture into the dale!
My question is as follows:

Can I copy the portraits from Icewind Dale into my BG2ToB portrait folder and use them as customised portraits...they seem to be the right size and all

You'll have to extract them. Download Infinity Explorer, and follow the directions for installing it. The pics you're looking for are in the Graphics(BMP) directory (inside IE), and have an L or S on the end, ie: EMT_L (large portrait of elven male thief). Right-click on the pic name and export it to your portraits directory.

It is possible, but through a method fairly similar to extracting the portraits. The only thing you'd really have to worry about are any graphics the item might use. I would suggest downloading Infinity Engine Editor Pro to make any needed corrections. If you don't wish to get that technically oriented, then you might search around the forum and/or the internet for sites to see if anyone else has extracted IWD/HOW items. I must admit I was always fond of the Ice Maiden's Reaver...silly, I know, but I was nonetheless.

Sparhawk, in case you don't want to mess with Infinity Explorer, you can download the IWD portraits from this site:
