ok, this is upsetting me. EVERY SINGLE TIME i dual a thief to another class, i lose my trap setting abilities. no matter what kit i choose, or what class i dual to, i lose my trap skills. i dont lose any other skills, just my trap setting. is this supposed to happen?! i JUST reinstalled it because i got a new hard drive. it did it on the old one too, but now it is doing it on this one.

I dont think your supposed to have any of your abilities until you get to a simialar level in your other class.

Morgan is neither a newbie nor a fool. I'm sure he knows that he must wait until his new class level exceeds his old class level to use his thieving skills.

Morgan: you are NOT supposed to lose any skills from your old class. It sounds like a bug. Did you apply all the patches? Did you install ToB and its patch?

I know that I've done Bounty Hunter -> Mages and the trap setting worked fine (after the appropriate level).

thanx nifft, i think ill get the patch, maybe that is what it is. yes, i know i need to exceed the level of my previous class before i get abilities of the said class. ive been playing PnP, for years, and got this game the day it was on the shelf. if you read my post, it says that i get back all of my abilities EXCEPT the set traps skill. ill try the patch idea, and see if that is it.

Sounds like a call of "Shadowkeeper to the rescue!" to me......

But that's only because I harbor a certain distaste for downloading & installing something I don't completely understand.

A similar thing happened to me....I Dualed my Level 21 Assassin to Fighter, but when he got his Thieving skills back, ALL of them took a nasty hit. And he'd been a Fighter for so long I didn't even remember what to hack his Thieving skills back to! Aaarrgh. Good thing I had a Mage/Thief to take up the slack, though.

BG2 treats setting traps or special traps as a form of "innate spell"; once you change your class those innate spells are wiped from your "memory". Unfortunately, when you reach the point where you should recover your abilities you don't recover those "spells" because your new class doesn't earn those abilities. This is definitely a case of "Shadowkeeper to the rescue".
