I duelled my kensai at level 18 to a thief, which could then gain the ability "use any item", which allowed him to not only wield the Carsomyr+6, but also to wear any armour (the white dragon scale is AC-2 and doesen't hinder thieving skills). Result? A tank with an AC of -14 (with ring of gaxx, cloak of Montolio, amulet of the master harper, white dragon scale bonus +2 AC for being a kensai), strength of 23 (girgle of fire wearing symbol of lathander), grandmaster in 2-handed swords and katana, two solts in 2-handed weapon style wielding Carsomyr+6 and attacking 4 times per round (with help from boots of speed and gauntlets of extrodainary specialisation - previously unusable by a kensai), bonus + 6 to hit + 6 damage, -4 speed factor and can backstab for around 200 damage (hehe, you aint seen nothing until you've seen a grandmaster kai critical quintituple backstab with 25 strength and a +4 katana, and oddly, the staff of the ram+6 lets you backstab??)

This guy just seems a little over powered, mainly due to the use any item ability that allows a kensai to use equipment he was previously unable to. Any opinions?

Just about any class you dual to/from or multi with a thief will be powerful, because you can Use Any Item and also use Assassination.

But the Kensai/Thief conbination seems to be better than any fighter/thief combination because you get the AC bonus AND the bonuses to hit and damage, essentially creating a kensai with no disadvantages. Since the kensai has high combat bonuses, this kit had the most disadvantages out of any fighter kit (armour, bracers etc), all of which have now been erased?

Assassination does rock though, and if you use improved haste, your next 8 attacks will act as a quintuple backstab!

It's the "Use any item" ability that's the problem. It's a definate unbalancer. You aren't the first one to figure out that a dual from a thief can have tremendous results. I don't like it though. It feels like bug abuse. I don't think they thought that ability through before implementing it.

I don't think that the "use any item" ability has not been thought through properly because rogues do make the best of what is available at all times, so it is simply a maturement of their skills......?

P.S. I just hit 350 damage with a grandmaster, kai, critical, quintuple, backstab, with the staff of the ram +6, and a potion of storm giant strength (25 with symbol of Lathander), incidentaly, the enemy was wearing chain mail!

Thives are not too powerful that's why they did this ability, and it is a rouge a thief, so he needs ot know hwat he's getting or using... what they didn't think of were the carnage it can instill in one character who plans on dualling...

i know what can kick his butt: A monk. With quivering palm... it might take a couple of retries though
