Is it really necessary to kill something more than once?

Ok, I killed Sarevok once. Then I did Irenicus twice. That was bit surprising. Never had to do that before.
Now, what, we have to do Melissan 4 times? Sorry. I refuse to bother. I did her 3 times, and dammit, that ought to be dead, Dead, DEAD. It is just stupid. I stopped the fight. If they wanted us to have unlimited carnage over and over, they could have written Diablo 2.
Unbecoming for a decent triad of games to end this way.

By the way, where did Melissan turn up from? Never heard of her before. Suddenly, she's more powerful than my brothers, the Bhaalspawn? Bah! What a poor plot! And there's no surprise about her either; with the tight limits posed by the sequel, virtually anybody with a couple lines of dialog has to be a suspect to turn up as the end boss. Especially anybody extraneous.

Balthazar would have been a far better and more logical final enemy. He was cool. He was interesting. He was the last external Bhaalspawn, dedicated to destroying Bhaal... Or, how about a betrayal by Imoen? She could have made things real interesting if she split off your party and took say, one NPC with her. 2 on 4. That would be a good fight!
They didn't need a predictable plot twist. We knew(and accepted) that the sequel was going to be just an expansion.

Thank Bhaal there isn't a Baldur's 3 or we'd have to kill something 8 times.
Ok, end of rant. The rest of the Trilogy's very good, not to get me wrong. It's worth playing. Just the end fails to deliver.

-Actually, she does not die four times, she is mortally wounded each time and runs away to recover her HP and strength in the flow of energy that is the Bhaal essence.
I have pulled the same strategy in battle, as I may be quite near death, I will go into my little pocket plane for a snooze, then return when I feel like it. Cheese tactic Yes.
Effective, none the less.
Remember that you killed Irenicus in his "life", then again in "death".
I know that from reading books like Prince of Lies, that a spirit can "die", in the Realm of the Dead, and be completely wiped out, only then. When you kill a demon on the Prime material plane, that demon goes back to his little hell. If he is killed there, he is wiped out. Strange concept...but there it is...

---Now for the plot...well, you are right about that. It was obvious from the beginninng. IF our chars. had half the brains that our stats say they do, they would have easily been able to see that ruse.

I hear rumors of peaceful Balthazar and peaceful Melissan solutions.

I can see peaceful Balthazar happening, but not Melissan.

Also, how do you use that pocket plane cheese ? I can never pull it off. It always says "you can not do this in battle". Whatever. I never really need it.

The thing is, I did not really care about Melissan at all. I didn't hate her. I didn't like her. She was not evocative. It would have been much more tasteful, had I had to do that marathon with her, and then Bhall gets ressurected, and I get choices. Like peaceful, fighting or suicidal. Like PS:T. I think that would have been best. Is there a suggestion box somewhere, where I can put this idea ?

Yes, Homeusplee, I would have liked that too. I hade developed a hate for Sarevok for killing my foster-father and wanting thousands of lifes slaughtered in a meaningless war.
I developed a hate against Sarevok, him stealing my soul and wanting to be a god.
Melissan... you meet her as a goddie in the begining of the game. Then you meet her as the final boss... you get no time to hate her. She doesn't do anything that is worse than Sarevok or Irenicus really... At least, I don't see it as it..

Actually, I couldn't really hate Sarevok in BG1. Yes, he kills your father, but beyond that, you hardly ever see the guy. I felt he was completely undeveloped as a villian in BG1. At least, he could have had some speech when he died about a secret he had or something (knowledge about you and Imoen's past). This would have been a good bit of foreshadowing for ToB, at least. But he was just very cardboard in BG1. I feel Melissan is the same way ("Oh, we need some big boss for the expansion, and we are behind schedule." Everyone looks around at each other, not wanting to do it, then look at the new guy. "Hey Billy, I want you to pull some overtime this weekend and whip up a master villian real quick.").

Now, Jon Irenicus was a great villian! The did a good job of developing him, and he helped to make the game more exciting (let's face it, every hero needs a good nemesis to make the story interesting).

That's just my two cents.
