I read somwhere that intelligence affects how many languages your character can speak. Does this hold true in BG?

I don't think so, since almost everyone seems to speak common.

No, this is one of those aspects of the core rules that weren't implemented in the BG games. There's only one language really in the game anyway, the common speak. If you find something in the game in a language that your character can't understand, it's meant that way, and having a high INT won't enable you to translate it.

But it would be CAF if that was implemented into the game...it would give an extra bonus to the people with high inteligence, and might stop people doing 18/18/18/3/etc etc stats (3 being INT).
What an ace idea...I mean, on future games (probs to late for IWD2 now), but Elves could speak Elven, Dwarves Dwarven, and people with a low INT might be able to talk in common, and get a bit of info, or people with high INT could talk in THEIR language, and extract a whole lot more!

quote: Or, just like in PS:T, make dialogoptions dependend on your Int score. Thus, a braindead char with Int 3 should have only a fraction of options a genius with Int 18 would have. |

This last is already implemented - I think
At least with other stats (WIS and CHR spring to mind) I'm sure dialog options change. |

quote: slight BG2-spoiler ahead - just deleted it... - - - Hm, yes, IIRC I read something about some changing dialogue options somewhere in BG2. On other occations I didn't see any change in dialog options, but its more because I never played a genius by now but only some avarage chars with Int 12-14 since my first to chars I finished BG1 with were an ranger and a paladin. But when I am back in germany I will start another run through the whole series, this time with a mage/thief and he will have of course high int. Chris, thats a spoiler here, this is the BG1 board.
Anyways, there are a _few_ points in SoA where INT makes a difference to conversation options, but nothing to write home about. AFAIK, there are no sections like this in BG1. There is no translating from other languages - there are one or two places where its implied that your char is translating, but its assumed anyone brought up in candlekeep would be able to read elvish etc.
