In the Beholder lair of Underdark my strategy was to summon a pit fiend to tear the creeps apart. Now, as I was standing, stealthed, a few meters from the raging balor, I noticed something I didn't witness when I last was there. As the fiend chopped a beholder to Near Death, it fell unconscious. The fiend didn't bother looking for vital signs and moved on to the next beholder. I, noticing that the one lying on the ground was only feigning death, finished it off with a single arrow. After that I realized that as I was no longer hidden, there was nothing that stopped the remaining beholder from dispelling my Protection from Evil, and should it dispell my Protection from Evil, there would be nothing that stopped the balor from separating my spine from my scapulas. I ran behind a corner, restealthed, and went back to oversee the destruction of the beholder. Again, as the fiend sliced it to Near Death, it fell on the floor, unconscious. The Balor, probably very proud of itself now that the Eye Tyrant was lying on the floor, ignored that the thing was still breathing, took a more relaxed pose and glanced at its watch as it waited for the duration of the Gate spell run out. I arrowed that Beholder too.

Now, I was under the impression that Beholders couldn't fall unconscious. Have I been misinformed? Does it always happen when demons nearly kill them? Does the demon have some special attack that causes unconsciousness and works on Beholders too? Is it a bug? Should I do something about it?

Beholders are immuned to the following effects,

..) Charm(5)
..) Sleep(39) (317)
..) Hold Creature (109) (175) (185)

Sleep(39) is the immunity to unconsciousness. The Beholder will still flop to the ground, but continue attacking by flopping back up to zap a ray, before flopping back down.

My question though, is which Demon did you summon? Neither Baalors nor Pit Fiends have the ability to render their targets unconscious. Baalors either have normal hits, panic-inducing hits, or vorpal hits. Pit Fiends have normal hits.

That's weird. The Pit Fiend from the Gate spell has no special attacks, just raw damage. Did you install any mods that might have affected Demons?

Well beholders cheat all over the place. Ever notice how they still cast their eyerays in Time Stop? Or when stunned?

No mod that I have claims to change beholders or demons.

I just remembered another funny thing happening when the demon was fighting the beholders. At some point during the battle the eye beasts stopped shooting their rays, as if they weren't aware of the demon's presence. They just floted around, looking stupid, as the baatezu slashed them. They probably can't be blinded either, can they?

That's an AI script issue, since the Pit Fiend is a fellow Red Circle as well.
