I've always opted for Blackblood, because it's +3 and a bonus +3 acid damage is really handy.
But have I been doing myself a disservice? Is the Gnasher a more damaging weapon in 'general combat'? It's +2, so won't be so useful against a few enemies that require +3 or better enchantment, and it doesn't dish out elemental damage such as that needed for finishing off trolls ... ... but these instances aside, is the Gnasher's eight points of extra damage from 'slivers' a better deal than the bonus one you get from Blackblood's better damage (+3 vs. +2), plus the bonus three you get from the acid? 'Yes', it's THAC0 is marginally worse, but all up, is it the superior general combat weapon? Thoughts? |

I don't think so. I only use it for spell disruption. The damage is over what, 4 rounds? For a lot of enemies someone will be dead before 4 rounds are up ((usually them ). I use blackblood except against spell casters.

clubs are the most ridiculous weapon i have ever seen
![]() if you are restricted to such a choice (being a druid), i'd prefer scimitar & shield style or a quarterstaff style (2-weapon-fighting just does not fit for a druid, IMHO) |

I avoid clubs, myself. There's only 1 or 2 decent ones in the game, and they just don't look that good.

This is an interesting question, and I think the answer is very situational. My solo Beast Master opted for the dual wielding combo of Gnasher in the main hand coupled with Backblood in the off hand which proved to be very effective (when the Staff of Rhynn wasn't being put to use).
Gnasher will pull away from Backblood if the character has lots of ApR (for character than can use Scimitars, Gnasher main hand combined with Belm off hand really starts to stack the splinter damage up!), but for the not-so-tough creatures that will only stand up to a few hits anyway, the THAC0 and immediate damage bonus from Backblood should (marginally) prove more useful! The other situation is as ister suggested, against a mage. The splinters from Gnasher should count as individual physical attacks (not sure) which if true will tear stoneskins apart. Combined with continous spell failure makes this a great mage slayer (provided they aren't under PFMW). |
