although I've got Gigs of room on my HD, I choose NOT to do a full install and the disc swapping is driving me nuts.

Can I save my savegame files and do a full reinstall (has anyone did this, and did it work or produce bugs? )

If so whats the best way to go about it?

Install Game and patches then install all mods 1 by 1, or can I like save the overide folder and mod folders and then throw them in after the full install?

Or do i just have to walk through hell on hot coals with bedroom slippers for my sins.

I personally don't have any mods, but virtually every post deals with them now so I feel qualified to answer. Just save your games, and completely uninstall. Reinstall fully, patch it, then download the mods 1 by 1 like you said, preferably in the order you did last time. THEN add your saved games and all should work. Saving the mods and override folders may work, but it doesn't seem worth taking the risk, as some mods may install differently depending on whether you did a full install of the actual game or not. And walking on the coals is always an option as well, but the poor bedroom slippers did nothing wrong, so leave them out of it.

Why not partition your drive (you say you have gobs of room) and do a seond install on the new paritition. No risk to your current set up, and just copy the save game over when you're done.

Is it really possible to partition a drive with things on it? I was always under the impression that reformatting a drive for partitioning would involve wiping it completely clean.

You can partition free space, but not used space.
Oh, and before you partition, I reccomend a defragging.

Sounds like a plan, and just happens I already have the HD partitioned C/D/E . Though for the slight amount of time it'll save and possibility it may produce bugs, it seems like the ultimate fail-safe would be to install on another partition and do the 1 by 1 mod install (minor pittance for my sins).

thanks for the feedback

simply keep your saved game folder. If you've created any items yourself (using IEEP), then copy those over from your override folder and paste them back in after the re-install. If you've enabled cheats, then after you install, you have to re-enter the cheat line into your baldur.ini file. Do not keep the baldur.ini file however; if you do, the full install will not take effect. You know those movies that you see sometimes when you enter an area? You'll end up seeing them again, although that is not a big deal at all. Other then that, just do a full re-install and you're good to go.

Hold on there,, you cannot have 2 loads of BG on the same master drive. The Registry will say it's already loaded and you will get strange problems trying to load. Perhaps it would load on a slave HD, but that means you would need a dual HD system.
Just copy your saves and see if it will do a full install over the current install......but it's better to just delete and re-install the game IMO.
