It's been a couple of years since I played Baldur's Gate II and I had a quick question. I have the expansion pack and installed that when I reinstalled the main game and noticed all my characters start at around level 8. Should I restart the game without the expansion pack, or will the game automatically adjust itself to make it tough for a level 8 character? Thanks!

I may be wrong but I thought they allways started started at a level 8 with or without TOB...but even if this is true you will find irenicus's dungeon was never really hard in the first place no matter what level you are, there for you will be okay...for me the dungeon was about the same level of difficulty before and after TOB but there was no changes...unless you install Tactics MOD, but i highly suggest that you dont install that MOD if you want to just have a fun challenging game since obviosuly you have had a nice break

Really? You start at 8, even without the expansion? Huh. Maybe you're right. I just always assumed you started at level 1. Baldur's Gate II was the very first RPG I ever played (my husband's idea since he felt bad that *he* was always on the computer while I had to find something else to do. Now he regrets it because *I'm* always on the computer!).

If you're right, great, but I just figured you started with level 1. Does anyone else know?

You are right that the dungeon is still pretty hard in the beginning. All the damn goblins! Forgot about them!

Start of BG1 = 0 EXP = Level 1.
Start of BG2, new character = 89,000 EXP = Level 8ish.
Start of BG2, character transferred from straight BG1 = 89,000 EXP = Level 8ish.
Start of BG2, character transferred from BG1+ToSC = 161,000 EXP = Level 9ish.
Start of ToB = 2,950,000 EXP = Level 18ish.
