Monks / Baltazar

I have never played a Monk and I have only had one in my group and that was neverwinter nights. I read that to fight baltazar I should be using Staff weapons but I have not found anything to explain.

My team is Minsc Sarevok, Aeria, Imoen and Har Daelis. We have several +2 staffs and +3s plus a club that if we are not careful lets loose a fireball on impact. I am thinking of trying alittle practice. I have a save from just before we stormed the Monastery Gate. Since the defenders are all Monks it should tell me some things.

One question: I have had several of Baltazars Monks on the ropes only to have them suddenly recover and they didn't drink healing potions. Could Balatzar's spells be healing himself and his monks in the battle.

What are your levels?

Monks have a similar ability to a paladins Lay of Hands, heals them up a bit. As far as requiring staves for fighting them, check your feedback text, they might be immune or resistant to other forms of dmg. I believe monks are also fairly resistant to magic as well.

There's nothing special about staff weapons vs. Balthazar. The last time I knew, his damage resistance to different types of weapons was similar for each type, and Minsc and Sarevok don't use staves anyway.
