I'm playing 4 tanks in my current party:

Minsc, Keldorn, Jaheira and Anomen.

What are the 4 best armors in the game? I'm talking about overall here, I want a good AC, resistances, ect. if possible.

Danka

The best armors would be dragon scales of course, white, blue, red, etc. Other than that there always is: The Big Metal Unit, Aslyferund Elven Chain +5, Grandmaster's Armor +6, Shuruppak's Plate, Gorgon Plate +4, Jester's Chain +4, T'rachie's plate +5 though it may be cursed, it's a good armor, and many many more...

Unenchanted Full Plate Mail. Saving Throws beat AC any day of the week.

I agree with Six. I find with the full plate mail and a ring of protection +2 or a cloak of protection my tanks last longer. When I'm out to power game I always do this, they have a little lower AC but their saves are much harder to get better than AC. Usualy when I'm in a role playing mood I let my tanks were the most rare and special armors, to boost their already swelling egos after destroying many dragons, liches, a few demi liches, hordes of undead, beholders, a drow city, hordes of fire giants, another drow city, ect.

I think if someone can do all of that, they need to be wearing *something* to set them apart from the average person who can save up 500 gold pieces and buy a full plate mail.

it doesn't - but it allows you to wear rings (or cloaks) that do

I find that Aslyferund's Elven Chain +5 is a very good suit of armour. It provides some good AC as well as immunity to ALL normal weapons, so Orcs, Goblins, Ogres etc... can do nothing against you. Also, the Adamantine Full Plate Drow Armour +5 has the best AC in the game, but you can only use it when inside or before you complete the Underdark/Drow City chapter.

The rings (and cloaks/amulets too) of protection are a nice idea, but is it really better to have +1 or +2 to your saving throws than have resistances to certain types of damage (fire or electricity, for example)?

I'm considering following this idea in my new game, and having the whole party wear nothing but regular armor and have an item of protection on.

Incidentally, I only know of two items that are +2 in SoA, the ring from Aran Linvale and the Cloak in the Sahuagin city. Are there any more +2 (or greater) protection devices in SoA or ToB?

You can get a Ring of Protection+3 from the Deck of Many Things, but the odds aren't in your favor. I've never done it myself.

Yeah, but are there any other Rings/Cloaks/Amulets +2 besides the ones I described?
