Which do you personally think had the better story line and plot??
I would say BG1 cos lets face it the big coverup with the mines and starting war's and Sarevok Climging his way to Grand Duke was an excellent story line BG2 Was good but i dont think it compares story wise but gameplay and everything else was better

I'll always have fond memories of BG1 as it was such a groundbreaking game in scope and storyline. It seemed so original in its approach and you really did feel like you grew with your characters. The atmosphere was excellent as well - you really did feel you were in Baldur's Gate as the city seemed so big. Having said that BG2 is the best tactical RPG I've ever played - storyline, interactions, romances, you name it it had it.

Well, I don't have BG1, but i heard it's great. I also saw a demo and some screenshots of it and i`m planing on buying it in the near future. I hope it lives up to it's expectations.

I own both and I must say that BG1 has more freedom, but BG2 has better banter/quests. I say BG2.

The story from BGI is far better. The immersion from BGI is far better. The feeling of wanting to play more is far better in BGI. BGI is balanced. BGI lacks a bit in gameplay.
BGII has the gameplay, two-weapon fighting rules. It has a balance problem. Even in normal SoA, you would get way too many magical powerful equiment at a time that's way too early. Big problem, because it messes up the potential of fun in the gameplay. Mages aren't scary anymore as in BGI, they're just a nuisance, just as that troll! Still, I chooseth BGII over BGI because of one simple thing: diversity. BGII gives you the option of making so much, and equipping with so many different thing that it takes more than a hundred times to play to try it all out! And that's what I want in an RPG, lots of choice!

I have to say BG1. It was the first one I played, and it still remains to be my favourite (with TotSC installed.) I love all the areas that you travel through. They all have random little quests and fun things to do. Also the likes of Gullykin are nice to. I think it's set in a better part of the world than BG2. It seems more remote and homely and just exciting. Each character you meet you are thinking, ooo what does this man want. But in BG2 there are too many commoners.
Also, BGT makes BG1 into BG2 rules, so it just makes it the best for me.

I prefer BG2 + ToB
the story itself is huge, maybe not put together as well as BG1, but still it's impressive. More classes, weapons, quests, gameplay, plus HLA's are a great asset.

If I had to pick one... BG1 for the fun of low-level adventuring and the freedom style of wilderness maps, but BG2 for the added battle tactics, and for strongholds, and container-highlighting, and higher resolution. Oh, the question was the storyline and plot? I guess I'd pick BG1, it's more believable and less one-track-plot, even though you can choose-your-own-adventure in either one. But you can combine them...
Two options for that are: BGT (Baldur's Gate Trilogy mod) or BGTutu (Baldur's Gate 1 to 2 mod) http://modlist.pocketplane.net/index.php?ax=search [ 09-19-2004, 05:38 PM: Message edited by: Hank Parsons ]
