If you like Ranger go with a Cleric/Ranger. You will love it. Or Sorcerer.

I specialise in Sorcerers, but I am quite fond of the Ranger:Archer kit.

Why? Just finish the game first with a C/R then make another solo with another character. Otherwise it's pretty much pointless to suggest a class if you keep changing your mind.

I think the best character is

Without any mods: Kensai(9)/Mage - very deadly
With Big Picture Mod: Kensai(13)/Mage or a Ranger(13)/Cleric (lev 13 for the extra 1/2 attack a round)

Methinks the strongest char I've ever played is a fighter(9)->cleric using a shield and warhammers. He could buff himself so much and still fight like a true fighter! Thanks to holy power ofcourse.
