I have installed The Darkest Day and Tactics Mod on my computer. So maybe for soloing but more likely for a small party i was thinking hwo should I be.Now to some facts: 1.)Are Assasains good? And if they are what stats, equipment and weapon profisencies do you suggest? 2.)In wich point of view Swashbucklers are better then Assasains. And what stats, equipment and weapon profisencies do you suggest? 3.)Are Blades good fighters?I am asking this becuase if i rember right they can only be proficent in weapons. What stats, equipment and weapon profisencies do you suggest? So i was thinkhing like this: *For Assasain-on wich level is it smart to Dual-Class him(if it`s nessesary)..or should I start as a Berseker for 5* in weapons and Dual-Class him to Assasain. *For Swashbucklers-well they are good as they are. *For Blades-well their Offensive and Deffensive abylity`s make them quite deadly. Well for party: Jahira Edwin(do I need him if I will be a Blade) Korgan(maybe) Aeire(The BEST FIGHTER IN THE GAME IN COMBINATION WITH M/C SPELLS) Something like this. Thanx. I would have to say a Blade. No, they are not a Figher Mage. They are not hobbled thieves. They are a Blade, a class unto their own.
Pretty much anything is deadly in a Blade's hands. Halbreds are nice, or, dual weild. Celery Fury and FoA is nice, or axes, longswords, well, pretty much anything will work. Big two handed weapons work well... In an Offensive Spin, you get maximum possible damage and an extra attack. Remember. Get Mislead ASAP. Your Mislead can sing Use self buffs. Blur, Mirror Image, Stoneskin, Tensors, you become pretty much Godlike in combat. Also, there is the MMM bug... Which is great fun. |

My message got stuck in the quote..heh
I would pick the Blade. Its one of my favorite classes. Get proficiency in dual wield and Long Sword/Scimitar (or Katana). I use Halberd, but nobody likes it...::sniff:: Swashy isnt a bad choice either. Traps are great.

assassins and swashbucklers are both cool, you sacrifice backstab with a swashbuckler, but you get sweet dual weilding. the poison of the assassin can really come in handy, it just depends what kind of game you want to play, be it slinking in the shadows behind somone with a poisoned blade, or charging them with 2 swords flashing in perfect harmony for an offensive strike.

The Swashbuckler and the Blade are very similar, so I'll deal with them first.
Each was designed to be a "Fighter-Rogue," in that each kits gets advantages over its base class in head-on combat. BLADE: Can place *** in 2-Weapon Style, can use Offensive Spin (maximum damage, extra attack) and Defensive Spin (-10 bonus to AC) SWASHBUCKLER: Can place *** in 2-Weapon Style, can place ** in any legal melee weapon, level-based THAC0 and AC bonuses. It seems to me that as far as melee combat is concerned, a Swashbuckler would whip a Blade any day, especially as it's the only Rogue that ever gets a good THAC0. The loss of Backstab is a pain in SoA (less so in ToB), but hey, you can always use a Stalker instead. The Blade, however, can make the fullest use of his spells and abilities to turn himself into an indomitable tower of defense. With some good Elven Chain, Stoneskins, Mirror Image, Defensive Spin, Improved Bard Song, and some spell protections, there ain't nothing that's gonna get past him (although he can still be knocked around by Wing Buffet). So, do you want a Swashbuckler for a kickass Thief and a backup Tank, or do you want a guy that can stop a boss enemy dead in his tracks, but is less useful for run-of-the-mill fights? Up to you. (Although the Swashbuckler can imitate the Blade's spell power, but only by sacrificing Use Any Item.) The Assassin is way different. Backstabbing is a godsend in SoA, but it becomes less useful in ToB (although there are still some worthy targets). Also, your Backstab multiplier becomes rather irrelevant if you don't have the THAC0 to make it count for something (although there is the Assassin->Fighter). In addition to this, I find that there's little difference between a x3 multiplier and a x7 multiplier: If the target's still alive, just run away, come back and do it again. Where Assassins really shine, though, is against Wizards. You *have to* kill them on the first hit, or their Stoneskins will make your life miserable. Add your Poison Weapon skill to this equation, and a careful Assassin should have no problem with most spellcasters.

Six, I must respectfully disagree.
Allow me to explain why. Blades can dual wield, yes, but, that does not mean they have to. Blades have a much larger selection weapons then a Swashbuckler. Instead of having 3 stars in dual wielding, those stars, along with all of the others, can be put into a wide variety of weapons and styles. Namely, two handed weapons like halbreds, spears, two handed swords, and bows. A Blade with a bow can compete quite easily with an archer for damage, but not the extras that an archer can get. In Offensive Spin with a bow, you get maximum possible damage and an extra shot per round, you can dish out a lot of damage quickly. With the Tugian bow, the Blade can do nasty things... Namely, making folks look like porcupines. A Blade can also use all those rather nice weapons that you never seem to work into your party. Dragon's Breath is a wonderful weapon, but, how many characters in game have stars in halbreds? Unless you put them there of course. A Blade armed with the Impaler stops being a weakened fighter rogue sort of character and becomes a frightning force of fury to be reckoned with. Sure, a Swashie can do this too, later, with UAI, but, many folks, my self included, don't have ToB. And even though Swashies can get UAI, they don't have the weapon skill options that a Bard class does. Nor do they have the different spins that a Blade does. Heck, the Blade kit it self is misleading, making people think they must dual wield and use swords only. The real power of using big two handed weapons with reach is that you can position your Blade behind something, like say a party member or a plugged up doorway and poke stuff to death quickly with no danger to your self. All of this aside though, there is something about how a Half Elf Blade wearing the Melodic Chain and holding a halbred that just looks so damn good. For style alone, the Blade gets my choice |
