There have been lots of threads about solo games (some really interesting ones). Does anyone play "duo" games (as in: the PC and one NPC)? I'm thinking of doing that for a little variety.

I often play duo (myself & romance) or trio (to add NPCs for other quests) games. It gives you a little more of the dialog flavor, plus a variety of quests, and you still level up quite fast. I had an elf fighter/mage combined with Aerie -- quite potent at upper levels with both casting timestop, Aerie turning undead, etc. Nice combo.

i've played with it but not got too far - i like the idea though - a few minutes 'fantasy BG' sat here came up with:

Aerie & male human swashbuckler->fighter
Anomen & female elf mage/thief
Cernd & female elf stalker
Edwin & male half-orc cleric/thief
Haer'Dalis & male human swashbuckler->cleric
Imoen & male half-elf ranger/cleric
Jaheira & male elf mage/thief
Jan Jansen & female dwarf fighter/cleric
Keldorn & male half-elf fighter/mage/cleric
Korgan & male halfling assassin
Mazzy & male human sorcerer
Minsc & wild mage
Nalia & ranger/cleric
Valygar & human swashbuckler->mage
Viconia & male elf fighter/mage/thief (if elf is the right romance choice - i forget)

I'm thinking of Aerie + assasin. I am a little concerned about Aerie living through the first part of the game, though (with her, what is it, like 30 HP?). Oh well, you only live once... unless of course you can reload... or go to a temple... or...

Thanks, Illumina. I think I've heard of that one. I am more worried about poor Aerie being able to run away from AoE spells quickly enough. I don't remember what level she starts at, so don't know what protection spells she has available "right out of the tent".

Try casting Mirror Image to counter AoE. In PnP, it only counters targeted effects, but that is not the case in BG2 (it counters AoE, too). Seriously, if you use the (many) buffs that Aerie gets with her spells, you can pretty much keep her alive through just about anything (in fact, cast a bunch of buffs, have her throw on full plate, and she can tank quite well).

PC: "I'm DYING!"

Aerie: "Here, let me take care of this, dear."

Boss: "Crud."

Dundee - thanks for the tip. That's certainly why I want to bring Aerie along.

I'm more worried about:

Aerie: "I'm DYING!"

Assassin PC: "Here, let me... ummm... Oh, I know, I'll hide in shadows".

Boss: "Excellent!"

I know how to protect Aerie - it's just that she needs so much more "care" than any other NPC because of her low HP. All the same, I think it would be a fun duo. Now I just need the PC to make it far enough on her own to pick up Aerie.

Erm... re-reading my post, I now realise it can intepreted in two ways. What I actually meant was...

PC: "I'm DYING!"

Aerie: "Here, let me take care of this, dear."

Translation: "Noooo! I'm not done using him as an emotional vent yet! Feel the wrath of a Cleric/Mage and begone!"

Boss: "Crud. *I'm gonna to get kicked by a 5' Elf*"

~~~~ ~~~~
Here's one combo you can do with Aerie and your PC. Have Aerie cast Free Action on your PC and then proceed to use Web.
