So, I’m back on SoA after spending some time on the sword coast with tutu and I seem to have settled on a character. I had too many ideas in my head including solos, themed parties, a multiplayer sort of Charlie’s angels style high-power party of 3 and gods knows what else but in the end I just did a full re-install of SoA and generated a character without thinking too much and he ended up as:

Zorf the Zealot, Half-Orc, Fighter/Cleric
STR 20, DEX 19, CON 16, INT 11, WIS 21, CHA 10
Sling **, Flail **, Sword & Shield **

(that’s from a very respectable first roll of 89 by the way plus my usual ‘i’ve played through tales of the sword coast’ upgrade)

Zorf has been on paper for a while, he’s a zealot (obviously) but I’ve never thought of him as evil as such so I was scrolling through the alignment and lawful neutral caught my eye (and had the advantage of allowing proper turn undead) so that was that. He’s currently wandering alone though chateau irenicus with one attack a round having failed to find a flail yet!

I have one question though – I’m really disappointed with the half-orc avatar. Any suggestions for something I can change it too (using shadowkeeper) that will look more hulking but still cope with spellcasting? Thanks

I dont know about the avatar...half-ogre maybe? Just be careful, as I had some bad experiences with avatar changing. I made a Sarevok looking character, but the game kept crashing . So make a backup save!

Nice character btw

i've done a search and it seems i'm not the first to complain about this - i guess a hard save and experiment will be the way forward and it seems that i might not get a 'paper doll' on the inventory screen for some of them

if anyone has any experience/knowledge that might help, that'd be great though . . .

one thign that occurs to me is: do problems show up pretty soon or could i break something that only becomes apparent weeks later and won't be fixable? (if that makes sense)

the experiments were pretty unsuccesful i'm afraid

i tired every avatar that seemed reasonable but realised that the main problem is that there hard-coded nature meant that they didn't even show weapon changes - can't be doing with that so i've settled for what i'm given

game-wise i've collected Yoshi and am working my way out and up

Zorf seems to be coming on nicely. I’ve been thinking of some companions for him as he’s realised he wants some assistants to help spread the word - by spreading people’s heads over the wall if necessary. He’ll meet Korgan and recognise him as the no-nonsense hard-fighting kind of mercenary that would be happy pointed pretty much anywhere. As far as Zorf is concerned, Korgan is a tool, although he doesn’t say so to his face. The fact that Korgan wanted to wade through some undead was just a bonus – Zorf doesn’t like the undead, heretical abominations that they are.

While soaking up the atmosphere of the local temples in Alkathla, Zorf will be asked to investigate some blasphemous cultists and meet Keldorn in the process. A paladin wouldn’t be Zorf’s immediate idea of a travelling companion but he respects his dedication and Keldorn has worked his whole life fighting evil wizards. Zorf hates all wizards so thought Keldorn would be a useful person to have around.

So that’s it so far, a party of four with Yoshimo. I was going to take Edwin originally but Zorf’s going to hate him and will probably kill him so that’s a non-starter – in fact there’s going to be no arcane magic on this run except that available from items. A druid might work but Jahiera’s not going to happen and I’d rather not have more than 4 people for management overhead purposes – hmm, I guess I’ll see what conversation options I get from Cernd. Hang on . . . Valygar . . .

I’m thinking now that Zorf is the unwanted result of a union between a female barbarian warrior and a tribal shaman possessed by the spirit of you know who – left on the steppe to die and recovered by Gorion – he . . . .
