I created a scimitar using IEEP, and something is bugging me. I have all the settings right on what type of weapon it should be, but whenever I try to use backstab, the game says 'this weapon is unable to do so'. Is there something I'm missing?

I thought that you can't backstab with a scimitar, even if you make the settings that way. I think it's hardcoded or something.

Thieves can use scimitars, yes? So they should be able to backstab with one.

Instead of starting from scratch, try taking an existing scimitar and modifying that. Then see what happens.

Did you check the Usability box to ensure that Thieves could use it? That's probably what's causing the problem.

Thanks Six, that fixed it but I ran across another problem. I tried to give an item the ability of Free Action but it doesn't want to seem to work. Any tips on that end?

How are you trying to give the item that ability? If you want it to work like the Ring of Free Action, then under Equipping Effects you add the effect of Free Action, duration = "while equipped", target = "self", probability = 100%, both parameters = 0, and saving throw = none. In short, check out the Ring of Free Action and copy what you see there.

And it negates your haste if you've got the boots of speed on.

Well, you see, that is my problem Azred, I followed it like you said but Free Action isn't going into effect when I equip the weapon.

Are you sure it's not working? I had a problem where it was working when equipped but did not show up in the character status screen (the two wavy lines). I think the lines are another effect you have to add. Might not be the problem but sounded like it might be.??? Good luck.

Oh, yes; it slipped my mind. You'll need to add another effect: Display Portrait Icon, again with target = self, probability = 100%, etc. Parameter 1 needs to be set to the "free action" icon, though.
You can always check to see if the Free Action is working by casting a Web spell then walking through it.
