Okay, I posted a thread about this earlier, then deleted it because of the description for the character, then read somewhere else that it was different. Confused yet?

Level 16/20 Assassin/Mage. Poison Weapon and Energy Blades. According to Sorcerer's Place, this is what the poison will do:

-lvl-15+: 3 HP poison damage every sec for 10 seconds unless save vs. poison; 3 poison damage every sec for 4 seconds - no saving throw; Target is slowed for 30 seconds unless save vs. paralyze - max 42 poison damage, 12 if target saves, plus stun effect unless target saves

9 ApR, everyone does electrical damage, everyone does poison damage, everyone has a chance to stun or slow. And it's quite capable of Poison-locking any non-fully resistant-to-poison-damage enemy into oblivion.

Theorycraft, yes, but I would like to know if it actually works in real-life like that. The weak link? I've read somewhere that it lasts for 24 seconds. However, the description says that it only works for the next hit. Which one is right?

Now, carrying the idea a bit farther: Assassin -> Fighter using the Gesen Bow with Grand Mastery in Bows, yada-yada.

It has all of the goodies that an Assassin/Mage would have, except that it can be Improved Hast'ed, which means a longer attacking period (GoES for the extra 1/2 attack, and the GrandMastery patch). And I'd think that an Assassin -> Fighter would have better thac0 too.

The poison lasts for quite some time, so it's not just the next hit.

also, I might be wrong, but I think you need to deal some component of physical damage in order to poison. so hitting a stoneskinned mage with poisoned energy blades might not work until after you strip his skins.

(also, I don't believe mages get energy blades...do they?)

but yes, I do believe that'll work.

mages get energy blades too...

i am pretty sure stoneskinned mages get poisoned too...

i usually use g deathblow with area effect weapons, and stoneskin doesn't seem to do anything at all...poison works the same way...

try with improved haste, if you can smack enough energy blades into them, the massively stacking damage per round will almost break their scripts, generating a sort of stutter, during which they can't even move or attack...

best of all, you can also poison melf minute meteors as an assassin mage...

really? not that i've extensively tried, but stoneskinned mages are not poisoned by arrows, but you're right--it might be tied to any damage at all...

which makes for really interesting tactics

The poison stacks beautifully, per hit.

Not sure about Stoneskins, but assuming none, the "Poison Stutter" will render most enemies to their knees.

Use Poison Darts or Bolts for an even more evil effect.

I was thinking of this as well. For those enemies taht are immune to electrical damage, IH'ed MMs give 10 ApR.

The reason why I like using EB and MMs is the high rate-of-fire. The higher the rate of fire, the more poison stacks, and the less the enemy can do.

Hrm... Imagine an Assassin -> Fighter using normal Arrows with the Gesen Bows, IH'ed and PW'ed. He'll be the bane of all mage-kind.

Thanks for your answers. Now, does the poison really work like Sorcerer's Place says it works?

um, what aspect of it?

It always does damage (12, I think) and if the enemy fails a save, it does more. not sure about the slow effect though.

and it definitely sticks around for more than the next hit
