I have played through many times with a party but going to try a little solo adventure. I know there has been lots of Kensai /mages and stuff, but has any one tried the elven fighter/thief/mage combo? Or is the level progression just to painfully slow? Just looking for opinions!
Thanx for the time.

From what I've seen on this board, that is probably one of the (if not the) biggest classes to solo, especially since you can pretty much do ANYTHING (except heal yourself and turn undead, but there are plenty of healing potions and anti-undead stuff in the game).

Level progression is not painfully slow when soloing.

soloing is fun (and possibly even more addictive than parties) - they level up fast and get powerful fast - having thief and mage in there gives you a ready source of easily gained experience very early in the game if you know what i mean and having a fighter component means you can cruise through combat too - its all good
weapon proficiencies feel slow to acquire though so the 1HWS / 2HWS / 2WS decision is an important one beware though - going back to a party when you've played one character wearing boots of speed and with only one inventory to juggle takes an effort of will |

also, i find that having soloed for so long, finding other things for my PC's to do is very hard cos i can generally take them all. When i did hav a [arty after soloing for ages the only team tactic was "Right, you, you, you, you and you are the meat shields and i'll do the rest" When there are lots of other tactics i cud employ. basically, after having soloed for so long, i tend to forget/ignore the fun group tactics

I've been trying to solo my f/m/t elf and boy is it hard with the tactics mod installed. I think that I'll stick with parties, they are hard enough. I could uninstall tactics, but the game is working so good these days that I hate to monkey around uninstalling any mods. It never seems to go smooth for me .
Thanx for the advice though. This forum really has helped me stay enthused about the game.

F/T/M Elf rocks, you can buff, hide in shadows, hit with ace backstab thaco, find traps, wear full plate, dual wield, cast timestop, set exellent traps, have good saving throws, are immune to charm, good hitpoints, can have a familiar for even more hitpoints, get ALL three classes HLA, wield the Carsomyr ( with high level rogue ability UAI), switch to Staff of The Magi and go invisible, backstab then re equip it to stay invisible, man.... Im rabbling...
But Im sure you get the just of what Im trying to say (still not as good as a sorceror though )

Not all at the same time... We all know that wearing Full Plate negates mage spells and many rogue abilities.
Fortunately, who wants full plate, when we have the Robe of Vecna?
