I'm running SoA, but have both SoA and ToB installed. Everything was find till I decided to head to Watchers Keep. I haven't finished off Irenicus yet, just wanted to gather up some more toys & XP first. The problem is that all my characters' range of vision is decreased to only about arms length, or a 2" diameter onscreen. There is one exception, and that is Jahera, who still has a 10" or so field of vision. Anywhere I go, any map, no matter how many times I rest, 5 of my characters walk around surrounded by shadows/darkness, except for a lousy 2" circle of light around each. HELP! P L E A S E ! ! !

Looks like you have been hit by Mephits, the ones that blind you to be more specific (Smoke Mephits).

If memory serves me well, you should be able to rid yourself of the condition by casting Heal on those affected. Temples sell Heal too, if you lack the spell.

While you are at it, install the ToB Patch and the ToB Baldurdash Fixpack. Links to both can be found in the sticky Forum FAQ.

But doesn't the blindness from Smoke Mephits wear off after only a short period of time? I can't ever remember having to heal myself after being blinded by any of the Mephits in Jon-boy's Hotel.

are the affected chars evil?
there is a known bug with holy blight and evil party members that causes permanent blindness
to get rid of it either use dispel magic or CHEAT and use Ctrl+R on the chars pic (only if it's really a bug though)

Actually I saw this bug when I was looking for the reason my friend's game was crashing when he rested.

It's a known line-of-sight bug involving being blinded then it not resolving correctly. Cast heal like Dundee said, and get yourself the patches

edit-

Line-of-sight bug

There is a bug where the main character suddenly cannot see any further than about 2 ft. in front of him/her. We have figured out a temporary solution to this bug, until a patch is released. Simply cast one of the following spells on your afflicted character and your line of sight will be returned to normal:

Heal (6th level cleric and druid spell, also available at a temple)
Neutralize poison (4th level cleric and druid spell, also available at a temple)
Cure disease (3rd level cleric and druid spell, also available at a temple)

This is fixed in the BG2 Patch

I'd like to thank all those who posted suggestions to solve my problem. However, none of them quite did the trick, although they were all on the right track. What actually worked was REMOVE CURSE. It wasn't blindness, because the white eye with the X through it wasn't showing on my portraits, and before, I'd still have a 10" or so area of light around a blind character. The odd thing is, I've been cursed before, and it was listed in my character info, but this wasn't. Oh well, you all got me on the right track to fix this, so thanx again!
