To tell you the truth, every one sucks.
talos can cast "lightning bolt" per 5 levels, starts with one. Max 10d6 damage. Can cast storm shield or whatever do not remember now. Not so good.
helm-sword of helm (+4 weapon), and some other spell i forgot.
lathander-boom of lathander-immune to several nast effects for a short period and another spell that i forgot. (what a memory do i have!! )
the only one that has actually something good is the talos guy. But compared to other "normal" clerics, i hardly see the difference.

If you are playing a single-class cleric, then definitely take one of the specialty priest kits. They add bonus special abilities, and have no downside whatsoever. The only time you should play a regular (no kit) cleric is if you are multiclassing or dual classing.

Priest of Lathander: Casts Hold undead (weak, considering you can turn/destroy them), and Boon of Lathander (good booster spell that protects against level drain, among other things)

Priest of Helm: Casts True sight (do I need to tell you this is good?) and Seeking sword (creates a magic sword that the cleric can use as if proficient).

Priest of Talos: Casts Lightning Bolt (not great, but at least it is an extra offensive spell) and Stormshield (I actually forget this one, but it is a defensive spell).

I have always believed that the Specialty Priest of Helm is more useful to the party, especially with the extra True Sights.

I always thought it ironic that a priest of helm got the seeking sword, considering priests are not allowed to use blades.

That's just the BG2-implementation of 2nd Edition AD&D-rules. In normal PnP, even in 2nd E, Specialty Priests of certain dieties were allowed certain weapons out of the normal Cleric's range of blunt objects. For example, Priests of Eilistrae could use longswords. I'm not sure about the special allowances of a Priest of Helm, but it wouldn't surprise me if some types of sword were among them.

I've always thought it would be interesting to play the game as a Priest of Bhaal...

Too bad it's not possible.
