1. shadowkeeper
2. Did you mean proficiency points or skill points? If you mean proficiencies I would go with long swords, daggers, staves and short bows. Depending on what mods you have installed I think there aren't as many good short swords as daggers. You can do good damage using a staff to backstab, as well as a katana(add that up there in place of long sword if you prefer but there aren't many available early.) If you meant skill points I would say hiding in shadows and moving silently unless you don't have any one else who can do the trap finding and/or lock picking. Then I would just distribute evenly and use potions of thievery. 3. Good long swords - Daystar(early), Equalizer, Blackrazor(late), Good short swords - Arbane's sword, Short Sword of Backstabbin' 4.There is a really good throwing dagger in the Underdark, and you can get one by doing a limited wish quest. Other than that poison throwing daggers are your best available.

(::hopes nobody gets to it first:
![]() Type "Shadowkeeper" into either the forum search feature at the top of the page or Google, and it'll eventually take you to the site where you can find Shadowkeeper. I suggest you put proficiency stars into either long sword or katana as an assassin. There are several good long swords. There are also several good short swords. And there are some good katanas. You can find some seat-kicking long swords before the end of Chapter 3, and a katana if you're feeling adventurous. (And no, I'm not going to give you specifics. I'll leave that to the dragons and Egyptian god/desses who have time on their hands for specifics. :p ) The only good throwing daggers and darts come in late SoA or with ToB. There are poisoned throwing daggers out there, but IIRC they don't strike as a magical weapon. Expect to wait until Chapter 5 before finding throwing daggers. (And no, I'm not spoiling here either. :p ) [ 09-30-2003, 02:24 AM: Message edited by: Pirengle ]

. . . . . . . . . . . The second-best returning throwing dagger can actually be acquired quite early, and even earlier if you are roleplaying evil. It is called "Boomerang" and is +2 enchanted, does 2D4+2 damage thrown or in melee. (Can't dual-wield with it, but you get 2 attacks per round with it, even in melee.) It is the reward for the quest you get when a mage in your party casts Limited Wish and chooses the option "I want an adventure like I've never had before" or something like that. The item is carried by Captain Dennis who is with his group of mercenaries in an inn in the Bridge district (Not the Five Flagons, further south-west). So if you want to go the evil route, you can steal it off him or just slay him and his party to get it.

For a question that general, I think you might want to start browsing BG2 item lists... Armen posted a link earlier in this thread that should help. My personal most commonly used item of that type is: . . . . . . . . . . . . Belm: +2 Scimitar (of Speed) that grants +1 attack per round. It's not "class-related" in that anyone who can get proficiency in Scimitar can use it. It's an awesome off-hand weapon for dual-wielding, since the +1 attack per round it grants actually effects the main-hand weapon when it is equipped in the off-hand. So if you've got a powerful one-handed weapon that you want to make even more powerful, add Belm to the off-hand and you will get an extra attack with your powerful main-hand weapon plus an extra attack with Belm.

There are a few nice Scimitars/Wazishakis/Ninja-Tos in SoA but nothing which will work for you at the end of the game (i.e. no +3 weapons) unless you are really evil and loot them from a very nice guy.
While almost any weapon class in plain SoA has an uber-item or at least some decent (+3 and some extra effects) item Scimitars and Bastard Swords are rather rare and sadly won't hit the real tough foes.
