As some of you know, this is my first time playing a D&D-type game, and I had a question about paladins. How do you become one? I have Anomen in my party, and he's been knighted, but I'm assuming there's more? My PC is a female mage, so don't know if I can do anything there. I do have the Carsomyr and it sucks that no one can use it! Can someone help me? Thanks!

You cant actualy become a paladin. I dislike anomen to the point where I never take him, so I dont know how hes handled, but hes a special case anyway.

If you want to use Carsomyr you have to either take a Paladin to begin with, or recruit Keldorn into your party.

Besides creating a paladin as your character, the only paladin in the game is Keldorn. He is found in the...(spoiler sorta)

You can't BECOME a paladin. You can create one as your main characterl or take Keldorn, as mentioned before, but there is no way to become one. Anomen doesn't actually become a paladin himself. He is a fighter/cleric and is a member of the Order of the Radiant Heart (or something to that effect). When his quest is completed in the good-aligned fashion he is knighted, not made a paladin. While this affords him some minor bonuses, it does little else other than give him the title "Sir".

FYI, Anomen never becomes a Paladin (I believe). After he takes his test, he just becomes a full-fledged member of the Order, nothing more.

Oh, crap. So having the Carsomyr is pretty worthless to me, then? I was under the impression that Anomen did become a paladin. Oh well. Guess I'll just have to make some money off the sword!

What are some of the advantages to being a paladin? I still don't know enough about the game to know all of the character details. Thanks.

The manual gives a brief overview of paladins, but this wonderful site goes into a lot more detail.

I asked a while back what made Anomen different from paladins like Keldorn, and someone told me that if the Order of the Radiant Heart was like the military, Anomen would be the equivalent of a staff sergeant. He's in the Order, he's got the rank, but he doesn't have the discipline or the devotion to become a paladin (an officer).

Carsomyr is a nifty sword, but only for paladins. You'll find several great class-only or character-only items in this game, and they tend to balance each other out pretty well.

Actually, Keldorn explains that one of the requirements of being a true member of the Order is being at least 40 (or was it 60?) years of age. So Anomen can never (during the scope of the game) be a member of the Order, but he can become an adjunct to it, serving under one of its members.

HEY, YOU. YOU IN THE HELMET.
Are you a holier-than-thou, sanctimonious old coot/crone?
Are you still strong enough to lift the sword you sword your oaths on?
Are you really (and I mean REALLY) good-lookin', despite your age?
Are you Human (not that we're racist or anything)?
THE NOBLE ORDER OF THE MOST RADIANT HEART NEEDS YOU.

It also boosts his Wisdom up to 16 ^^
