ok,i have a 9th level thief (still in irenicus dungeon) and i want to dual-class him at level 11 to a fighter, does that mean i get both the thief and fighter strongholds? the reason im asking is because i've never dual-classed or multi-classed the pc before so im not realli sure

No, you don't get both strongholds. At least you shouldn't, IMO.

But if you want to get both you can install the Easy-of-Use component which allows you to get multiple strongholds, even those which your class(es) would not permit!

i think you can choose what one you do although i may be wrong! can anyone confrim this or tell me im wrong?

While being a thief (read: before dualling), you can only get the thief-strronghold.
After you've dualled, you can only get the fighter-stronghold. IIRC.

If you REALLY want to, you can use the CLUAConsole and set the globals for the strongholds.

Expanded:
While you're thief only, you can get thief's stronghold only.
After you dual, you are basically a fighter, so you can get fighter's only.
But after you become thief(9) fighter(10), you can choose which one you want (as if you were multiclassed).
