Tanara is giving me big worries.... What hurts it? I seem to be lacking in whatever it takes. I have spent over two hours and all combinations that I have. I must be missing something. Thanks for any leads......Lynn

Try a Finger of Death. It often works wonders for supposedly Uberenemies. On the other hand he may be immune to that as he is a demon (damn I suck, well it's worth a try)
Anyway if you are not prepared to face a powerful demon like that yet (you need +3 or +4 weapons IIRC) and only want to advance in the story you can always use some cheese like trapping.

1. Set up all the Traps your thieves have in one area.
2. Rest
3. Repeat Step 1+2 as often as you like
4. Lure him to the traps
5. Collect his remainings

Don't suppose you'd care to give us your parties levels and makeup so we can be a little more useful?

hmmm...try casting resist fear(or remove fear, if you prefer. does the same), haste, strenght of one(make sure your tanks with more than 18/50, or whatever it gives, are out of the radius of effect when you cast it), chant, free action on as many people as you can and possibly quaff some buff potions. also, death spell is a huge help in this battle(i assume you mean one the tanar'ri in the planar sphere) since it kills most of the little demons surrounding the tanar'ri who is alone on the far western side of the map. hope it helps.

I believe Tanar'ri can only be harmed by weapons of at least +2 enchantment. If your Fighters aren't carrying any, you're probably in deep trouble. So many enemies in the game require +2 weapons or better that you really shouldn't go *anywhere* until you've got a couple.

And tell us where you are! You sound like you're in the Planar Prison, but you could probably be just about anywhere.

Well I have;
Fighter level 10
Ranger level 9
Stalker level 9
fighter/druid level 9/11
cleric/mage level 9/10
mage/theif level 11/4

The stalker talked me into this. It is in the planer sphere. And I didn't save on more than one place. I can't just leave. There are a couple of cowled wizards waiting for me also. Mayhaps I am just doomed to start over. But I will try all of the suggestions first. Thanks alot for all sugestions...Lynn

Don't say that. There's always a way out using the right tactics

From your last post I assume you have PC (fighter), Minsc, Valygar, Jaheira, Aerie and Nalia.
Now unless your own char is a helluva fighter your party seems to lack tanks (I just don't like MInsc for that job). On the bright side you've got lots of firepower from arcane and divine (mage and cleric) spells. With the right tactic you should be able to take out the demons and the Cowleds. If it gets to difficult you can always use some cheese - and later on think of a good excuse, "why it was actually realistic and not really cheesy at all".
Here's another one for the Cowleds (CTRL+A to read)

1.) You could find out (search the forum) what fake talk is and use it (but don't use it on the important navigator guy!!)
2.) Use wands (of magic missile, of fireball,of lightning, ...) and the Ring of the Ram immediately as you attack a wizard. They do not need spellcasting time and may be able to slay him before has even cast his protection spells.

"Someday I will be so dizzy from the stink of my cheesy tactics that somebody will be able to backstab me with Carsomyr"

How can her party be low on Tanks when she's got 2 Tanks and 2 Backup Tanks? Sounds perfectly fine to me, as far as pure Butt-Kicking-For-Goodness goes. No, Lynn, you've got muscle, but your party sorely needs a Thief. Yes, I know, Nalia's Profile has the word "Thief" in there, but she is NOT a Thief. She's a Mage who can use a Bow and fool you into thinking that you'll be able to Open Locks and Find & Disarm Traps. Don't be fooled.

The Tanar'ri in the Planar Sphere have only one powerful weapon at their disposal: Their Paralytic Gaze. Most Demons have some form of Gaze attack, and these are no exception. One simple glance from the Evil Eye and you could become petrified with fear and unable to move. And once your enemies see that one of your party members is helpless, they all move in for the kill.
"How do I avoid it?" There are two ways: Either try to find ways to become immune to Hold-type spells, or find ways to improve your Saving Throws.

And....Faceman? How precisely would Lynn go about using the RotR on those two particular Cowled Wizards?

Well, if he pick-pocketed ~somebody~ in the government district, he'll already have one... but with Nalia's Brilliant thieving skills, that isn't likely (baring potions ofcourse)
