I've been playing BG1 a lot because I just moved and BG2 is in a box that I won't be getting for another couple weeks or so. I'm starting to get a little bored though. What I'm looking for is something that'll be fun to play in BG1, that I can import into BG2 and ToB and still have an effective character. I'd play a bard/blade, but bards really suck in BG1, and blade's aren't really all that great, and I tend to keep my character in the back anyway. The same goes for a cleric. They're pretty cool in BG2, but in BG1, they usually just sit around and do nothing. As for thieves, I plan to keep Imoen so that doesn't work. Anywhos, I think my prediciment is clear. Can anyone offer something to make this game interesting again?

i understand your predicament. especially once you've played BG II and Throne, it's hard to look at BG I the same way again. i'm currently playing through with this dude Santhis, a fighter. i plan to play him through BG II and ToB as well...i've installed the xp cap remover, so i won't be limited in the game by him suddenly reaching the cap...
still, no matter what level fighter he reaches in BG I, at the beginning of BG II i'm going to duel him as a 9th or 13th level fighter, dualed to a cleric of lathander...i'm going to switch up his proficiencies accordingly, assuming that since the close of BG I a few years have passed and he has altered his disciplines as to reflect his newfound clericdom. sure, some people may consider this cheating, but it makes sense to me and it ensures that i enjoy the game all the more. you could try the 'natural badass' approach....go ahead and MAKE a bard or a cleric (someone who would be in the back quite a bit usually), but boost him up in levels from the very beginning...don't do the same for the NPCs, but you can assume that the Bhaal essence has made your character a little more powerful than the average adventurer. this way, you'll be able to unlock the later power of such classes a little earlier. if you feel this will unbalance the game, just take two or three or even four NPCs, as opposed to the full five. |

Sometime in the future, when I want challenge and variety, I'm going to go through the list of NPCs, and pick 5 of them ENTIRELY AT RANDOM. Interesting? Yes. Challenging? You bet, especially if you happen to pick, say, 5 Mages. Or if the names you pick are Yeslick, Quayle, Alora, Tiax, and Skie: You've gotta go solo until you get to the Cloakwood.

I always find a fighter/mage to be a good challenge, at the start it can get quite hard if you dont wear any armour and later in the game they can get quite powerful if you give the right stuff to the lower AC, casting spells and choppin people up wif a sword who could ask for more?

I could ask for more: Casting spells and kickin' ass with a bow.
![]() Although that does lower your AC a bit. A Fighter/Mage using a Sword and Shield could get an armor class of -7, and still cast spells. YEAH! (That's using all the best stuff, though, of course.) |

Let me think: my fighter/mage had -10 AC using full plate armour and shield. That plate gives -9 AC (AC=1), if I am correct robe of archimage has AC=5 so it would do -5 and I could get AC=-6 (But I have to check).
This is funny - you cant cast spells using armor but I think you can using that big shield. And I was never using Drizzt stuff, I think his scimitar Defender gives additional -3 AC. |

His Defender gives -2. Boo Ya! THAT'S why I kill Drizzt, I couldn't care less about his armor. You gotta find all the good stuff, Dex_man, ALL the good stuff. Try different combinations of protective items--some items will conflict (like trying to wear a Ring of Protection+1 and a Cloak of Protection+1) and some will not. (It's also possible to get your AC 2 points even further down by cranking your DEX up to 24, but that's so cheesy I don't know why I'm mentioning it.)
