Refusing Edwin

For the first time I have refused to attack Getharas for Edwin. He seemed to summon a series of assassins - but then dispeared. Has he gone elswhere in the game? I no longer get the key to Maevars box from Edwin, so know I cant produce the evidence for Bloodscalp?

I could hack the key up of course, but then I would always wonder if I missed anything.

You missed quite a lot. I would advise reloading from a save prior to doing that (you did save before doing, that if you are lucky [img]smile.gif[/img]

I believe that he's permanently gone, but just to make sure (never done it this way personally) check the stairs at the Copper Coronet.

I think Edwin rats on you to Mae'Var, and his death is an admission of guilt to Renal. I don't recommend you reload--you made a decision, and now it's time to live with the consequences. Unless you're a thief and really need a stronghold for some reason, the Mae'Var quest can go uncompleted and won't affect anything Aran Linvail says.

All you will miss out on is abuut 15 to 17 thousand gold pieces(if you sell all items) and around 70000 exp. points(maybe more). Thats not so bad, is it now [img]smile.gif[/img] ?

You are also losing some nice items. Also, Edwin is lost forever. Therefore reload Finish all his tasks. Tell him truth when he will ask about your true identity and then refuse to accept him in your party. Edwin will go to CC so that he isn't lost and you get your items, gold and XP.

Well, I always did it that way in all my other games - just rebuffed Edwin and told him to get lost..but I am supposed to be a Paladin- somehow completing contract killings for criminals seems morally bankrupt. Perhaps I will just hack up the key and go on.

Edwin didnt show up at the CC I checked there right after the piece of trash fled the building.

Just fer fun, I went back and attacked him before he got to speak..I got no exp but after went through the pockets of his stinking corpse, I found the key to Maevars table - which allows me to report back to Bloodscalp. I lost some exp, but I am in a hurry to rescue Immy as she is my new squeeze. heh heh hee

If you are a proper roleplayer and playing as a Paladin then helping out the theives guild (when it isn't absolutely vitally to do so) isn't a great course of action anyway. Paladins arn't hired killers, that's what the police force are for [img]smile.gif[/img]
By the time you finish Throne of Bhaal, 70,000 xp won't add up to much anyway. And as for the gold, well, by chapter 5 you'll have more than you could ever spend [img]smile.gif[/img]

It would be great if the game's AI could punish you for poor roleplaying through xp deductions of special ability restrictions. As it stands it is possible to be a Lawful Good greed-monger on one hand, and a chaotic evil saint on the other. *shrugs*. What's the world coming to?
