I restarted the game after Keldorn and Viconia forced each other to leave! Can one drive the other to bail or was it just a bug? How can I prevent one or the other from leaving?

I don't know why, but I never had that problem. Viccy just got on his nerves once in awhile but that's it. But at a certain point they will either both leave or attack each other I think. Download Ease-of-Use Mod and no more worries
