This is kinda weird

Been thinking what might be causing this or how it happened.

In BG1, I created two special characters. One is a Drow Cleric. The other is a Half Elf... One of those halves being Drow.

And I used a character editor made for the Mac. It's a POS, bugged to hell, generally causes problems, but, all I did was give my Drow Cleric 50% MR, the Half Drow 25% This made my own game entertaining, and, I did not view it as cheating. After all, there is a Drow in the game already. It also made for endless frusteration when my own healing or buffing spells failed to effect me.

I imported my Half Drow Cleric/Mage. Instead of having 25% magic resistance, I had 37%, which sort of freaked me out.

The real surprise however, came when I leveled. I gained 1% to MR when I leveled as a Cleric, and, then, another 1% when I leveled as a Mage.

Any idea why this might be happening? I realize that using a slightly altered character is the cause, but, why the change? Is the game treating me as a Wizard Slayer or something? Anybody have any idea what went screwy?

When you mess about with games importing/exporting adjusting etc all you get is problems

Perhaps you should get back to BG1 and remove that MR. Than, when you import the game, apply it back.
Keep your BG2 save, better safe than sorry.

its because your character is elven, and elves get magic resist too in bg. thats why you got extra when you imported, and when you lvl up. you also get bonus to charm and sleeps spells.
