First, I had it that Elminster gave my character this sword on entering Baldur's Gate for the first time:
Andontur This mighty blade was imbued by none other than the famed Elminster, Sage of Shadowdale, for Trau, the Bhaalspawn. While meddling in the affairs of others was customary of the Sage, giving away personally created magical equipment was not. No doubt Elminster knew of the troubles that would be brought before Trau, it is unlikely that this reason alone warranted the Sage to go through the labor of producing this mighty sword. Trau was the foster child of the now deceased Gorion, a friend of Elminster, and this probably had much to do the the special treatment of young Trau. STATISTICS: Combat Abilities: 25% chance to stun opponent on hit unless a save vs. spells at -4 is made Damage: 1D10+3 THAC0: +3 bonus Damage type: slashing Weight: 8 Speed Factor: 4 Proficiency Type: Two Handed sword Type: 2-handed Requires: 14 Strength Now, I wish to 'upgrade' it to this, having it reforged with Carsomyr: Andontur: Wrath of the Godchild This mighty blade was imbued by none other than the famed Elminster, Sage of Shadowdale, for Trau, the Bhaalspawn. Reforged with the Carsomyr holy avenger, the blade was made significantly more powerful. Some of the holy power of the Carsomyr was retained by master-craftsman Cromwell in the forging. STATISTICS: Combat Abilities: 15% chance to incapacitate opponent on hit unless a save vs. death/poison at -4 is made Equipped Abilities: Cast Sunray three times per day Equipped Effects: +50% magic resistance Damage: 1D12+5 THAC0: +5 bonus Damage type: slashing Weight: 8 Speed Factor: 4 Proficiency Type: Two Handed sword Type: 2-handed Requires: 14 Strength Thoughts?

Well, why not Lilarcor? T'would be better I think. Reforge it into something truly useful. You are not a Paladin correct? You would have to be seriously sick and evil as a character if you wanted to destroy a Holy Avenger just to make a sword for your self.
Or why a sword at all? Add components to the game to find so you can reforge a sword. Ideas. Sword of Sharpness effect. Each hit has a percent to lop off an arm or a leg and cause uncontrolable bleeding for say, d6 rounds. Suffer maybe say, 3 points of bleeding damage a round. Instead of having magic resistance, have it lower target's magic resistance on each hit. If you wanted a real mage slayer sword, have target save vs breath weapon on each hit at -4 or be Silenced, like on the fabled Bardic Blades Din and Discord. Nothing screws up a mages day like a sword that can silence on each hit. They are bound to run out of Vocalize spells sooner or later. Maybe have a sword that has a chance to cast spells on attack. Like say, a Melf's Acid Arrow or maybe a 6d6 Flamestrike. And for those of you asking, Din and Discord. I can't remember everything, but, they were VERY powerful artifact level weapons. Din. Dagger Class Weapon. Damage: 1d4+3 Strikes as a +5 weapon. Adds Vocalize effect. With each hit, target must save vs breath weapon or be silenced. Once per day can cast a special Mislead that can not be dispelled. There were two other mods I can't remember. Discord. Shortsword Class Weapon. Damage 1d6+3 All targets hit are Terrorized. (It was a 5 level Illusion spell) Creatures of 5 hit die or less are slain instantly, creatures of 5 to 10 hit die must make a save vs death at a -3 penalty or be slain. Creatures of 10 hit die or greater get a normal save vs spells or be Terrorized, dropping their weapons and running away from the caster at maximum movement rate, running for 2d4 rounds. After running, targets are winded and suffer fatigue effect. Wielder is immune to all fear effects and mind altering spells of 6th level or lower. Gains morale of Fanatic. Can't remember the rest. |

reforging to a +5???? DAMN thats one powerfull weapon lol. +5, casts sunray, +50% magic resist, 15% chance of instant death...that seems way too powerful for me, unless you had to sacrifice more, like 30,000 gold or your left leg

Not instant death, just unconsciousness. Hell, Carsomyr has the 50% magic resistance, dispel magic three times per day, dispel on hit, and is +5 enchanted. Mine has the MR(cumulative, though), Sunray 3/day, and 15% unconsciousness on hit(allows a save), and a +5 enchantment.

it's certainly powerful, is it overpowered, i think not but just barely. the fact that it takes the casomyr already one of the most powerful weapons in the game would need to be taken into by a player, i think i'd make it usable only by good characters(i realize this is being made for your charater and he might not be but your forging it with a holy blade) o and i agree it should be pretty expensive to forge maybe 20,000 gp

I think it's fine except for the +50 MR. make it set MR to 50 instead. MR boosters should only be small (5-20%). if you make it +50, it's waaaay too easy to get MR of well over 100%. And yeh, make it only usable by good characters. I don't think it needs to be too expensive though, remember you're sacrificing 2 great swords to get it. 7,500 to 10,000.

The way I see it, there's no reason to lower the magic resistance if you combine it with a sword that gives 50% MR by default. |

i think the big difference is carsomyr sets mr to 50%
and this adds mr of 50% its way easy to have magic heal you now ie mr above 100
