I was just curious, they look similar to planetars, but from the way they talk in ToB, it seems that they would be pretty much unsummonable by any mortal mage.

I think Solar is as powerful as any planetar out there, this one simply got a name...

Or pehaps she(he?) is one of the many demi-powers who serve the gods...I´m not sure...

By the way, here´s a site listing the whole hierarchy of the gods of Faerun: http://members.tripod.com/~ladymystra/Powers.html

I´m sure you´ll see some familiar faces there...

In each way, ranking goes from Deva to Planetar to Solar. I'm positive that Solars (in general, not only the one from ToB) have more powers than Planetars. And maybe they are unsummonable by mages, because of their power. I don't know that though.

Probably a good thing theyre not summonable. Think how owerpowered they would be. It would have been fun to summon gods though, I'd like to have Helm in my party

I don't think in game you would ever be able to summon them, but in theory, I think a REALLY REALL SUPER-UBER powerful cleric or priest might summon one, as they are servants of the gods...I think.

Be happy you cant summon them, just think about those powerful mages who everyone has trouble with.. you KNOW they would be summoning them way before you could lol thats allways how it works.

Actually, Clerics can summon Solars, just not in BG SoA or ToB.

A Clerical High Level Ability is Divine Aid. It summons a few Devas led by a Solar. It also heals all party members, cures all disease and poison, restores lost levels, etc. However, a Cleric needs an extended period of rest after casting this.

There is not much in the D&D universe that can stand toe to toe with a Solar in combat. Greater Gods, a few rare beings, a few rare monster types, but, not much else.

Yeah, solars are pretty darn powerful. To give you an idea, any Solar aasimar (part celestial part human) are recommended to be one more generation removed from the celestial than if they were decended from planetars or devas, because they'd be too powerful for PCs.

Aren't Solars those guys who spray Arrows of Slaying about them when they're pissed?
