Do you have Horror as one of your innate Bhaal Powers? Use it against him if so. Laying traps will not work against him due to his immunity to missile dmg, don't know if poison will damage him but it's worth a shot. Vampiric Touch will also do very nice damage vs him if you got it.

Do you have "oil of speed" if you do drink it and then backstab then run out of the room hide in shadow's run back in do a nother backstab and so on till he's dead.

P.S I do this alot it is so much fun just runing in and out and you do so much damage.

Wont work, the Greater Otyugh casts Dolorious Decay which instantly cancels out haste or slows, among other effects. A waste of a good potion in short

my advice is don't be scared to use the reload, and be generous with it. as far as tactics, try the run and hide in shadows tactic, that works well with an assassin, if I recall correctly from my solo run through the game with an assassin. You will need to use that tactic a lot, and reload a lot )

Too right on the "hit and run" tactic - A single opponent requires just boots or oil of speed - run away, hide in shadows, run back. Groups require a bit more tactical thought. Find somewhere where the fog of war covers your opponents - if you can get them at opposite ends of a room then you might be in luck.

Incidently - has anyone else noticed how "blindness" actually helps in that respect. I think most of the monsters (especially the dust mephits) have a touch of the "ravenous bugblatter beast of traal" about them.

Trapping your planned escape route is a good idea. At early levels save the poison for spellcasters. Make full use of the bhaal powers - if you've got any offensive ones at all - horror is great, but the others can make so much difference to a close fight (larlochs is great for spell disruption).

Final tip is that weapon selection is all important - I've always dismissed certain weapons as "will do until something better comes along" but have just discovered how useful some can be - Arbane's sword is a godsend for a solo character as are anything which gives mind shield (immunity to charm/confusion) which are instakills to a solo.

Solo Assassin is just the coolest!

Hit and Run simply does not work vs the Greater Otyugh

He has this annoying ability called Dolorious Decay which instantly slows and decays you without a save, as well poisoning you unless a save is made (negative I think).

Do absolutely not waste Oils of speed on him since this ability will cancel it out the instant you show yourself to him. You'll also have far greater need of them vs Improved Ilyich and his crew.

The point is that it's not very easy to run from this creature, and even if you succeed by running into the corridors, it wont be worth it. When you're slowed, this will take too long and the creature will regenerate faster than you can harm him with that tactic.

If you do not have Horror, the best tactic is to simply try and take him out as fast as possible. Backstab followed by a Vampiric Touch (if you have it) will most likely down him, a normal attack might even do it if you got a very good backstab.

With Horror, you have a few rounds when he wont try anything offensive to take him out, though he'll constantly try to avoid you so actually hitting him wont be that easy.

I think he can only cast Regen once, so try to attack him once and activate his regen, then simply hide till it wears off. Hit and Run backstabs should become more effective then.

Just a minor correction. Traps are not considered missile damage. Only one type of enemy in the entire SoA-ToB saga is immuned to them, and they reside in ToB.
