cannot host multiplayer

when i try to host a multiplayer game, it will never host. I'm stuck on the "New Game", "Load Game" screen, i can press either button, and nothing happens. I've filled out every section necessary (player name, session name), and have pregenerated a character (i've tried this with my player name being the character name of the exported character, the file name of the exported character, and a name altogether different than both the file name and the character name of the exported character). Is there a patch which i should have downloaded, or am i doing something wrong? (or must i re-install).

I've tried doing this both manually and through gameranger (mac user).

Wellcome to the forum.

What kind of connection have you set? Make sure you have correct device installed. You know, all those COM1 and COM2 stuff.
If you want to create MP game in order to create whole party, serial connection will do fine.

serial connection...what you're saying sounds english, but i'm not quite sure haha. It seems i only have "connect manually" and "connect via gameranger"...nothing about cap'n crunch or honey nut cheerios or any other serial out there. (horrible, horrible pun, i know)
so how would i go about doing this?

if you want to have a new mplayer game, config your connections to tc/ip settings. it works, that is the settings i use to create a mplayer party. if you want to play with friends then if you have cable, then use tc/ip if not modem.

pls note however, that if you have a cable modem, yet interested only to make a mplayer game/party, then pls be warned that on some occassions, there were people joining the game without permission. hehe. it happened to me twice already before i swithced back to modem

i can host perfectly under classic environment. but for some reason, i cant do anything under OSX, i'm not sure what the problem is. the gameranger connection sends me to the "connecting to session....this may take a while" screen, and afterwards i get "cannot join selected session". I cant host a manual connect game either. However, under OS9 i can host a manual connect session, and manually join a session. what's going on?
