what are some ways of dealing with these nastys ... pierce or remove magic doesnt seem to do the trick.. Also, the search button was there yesterday but gone again today. If it was there today I wouldn't need to post this common topic. Thanks in advance

Mind flayers are extremely magic resistant. Use summoned Skeleton Warriors (immune to intelligence drain and brain suck) on them, or backstab them with a high-level thief.

Beholders? Spell turning, magic resistance and luck Try multiple webbing and cloudkilling them. Try blinding them with glitterdust, nature's beauty (I haven't tried this personally, but some people swear by it)

right in the illithid tunnels in underdark, i was soooooooo stuck i was on the point of picking my computer up and lobbing it out the window. but then i was enlightened.
there r several spells that prevent mind flayers using their psionic blast (and umber hulks). cast chaotic thoughts on a tank and send him in alone. but watch their INT draining attacks. u can cast mordekainens sword, which is completely immune to mind flayers (it doesnt have INT i think and isnt exactly alive to be affected by psionic blast) send in the sword alone to do the dirty work.
i'm afraid i aint much good with beholders, just buff up ur party and hit hard and fast.
i dont know much more then that soz

though my skeleton warrior (the one u get at lvl 15) is owed pretty bad. He lasts a few sec but thats it.

I think protection from magical weapons will make you immune to INT drain...
So cast that and chaos commands on your mage and then launch some offensive high lvl spells, thou u may need to cast a few lower resistance. Im currently in the Ithilid lair in the underdark and Aerie got this firestorm thing that seems to damage them pretty bad. Though I had no tank when to keep the ithilids in the firestorm when I tested it but, I will rest and test it out. I think Mordekainens sword is useful as well.

If you got minsc in your party, give him a big sword and heavy armour, put him into berserk mode and enjoy the view of lots of Mind Flayer Beef

Btw if you got the shield of baldurian or the cloac of deflection, just equip them on your fighter and the beholder rays will be deflected, In other words you will be invincble to all but the elder orbs that can still can cast imprisonment on you
