You can use whatever sort of paint-program you want, as long as they can save files as .bmp. So Paint is absolutely enough, if you're only gonna use the regular tools like Flood Fill, Freehand Drawing etc.
The few times I make portraits, I use Paint Shop Pro 7, because of the tools available. But as I already have said, all painting-programs can be used. ![]() |

You can use any image editor as long as it can out put to 8 bit and 24 bit bmp files and can resize images to the required resolution.

You can also use fireworks from macromedia. You can download it from the web and try it for a month but than you have to buy and it is kind of expensive if you are not using it for a business. I am pretty sure you don't need it any more than a month, just have all your material ready.www.macromedia.com

very important thing here, i tried for about a month to make my own portrait, the darn .bmp has to be 8 bit, and you cant convert them to 8 bit in paint, they are 16 by default i think. So if it's not working you need photoshop or some other type of image editing program.
