!! Don't confuse this with the serial key that comes with your games like World of Warcraft and such - I agree with keycodes when you buy a game !!
What I mean by 'Gimped', I mean, for people that RENT a new Console game, or buy it used, there are more and more games being limited to what features they can access. For instance: Nearly ALL EA console games are doing this now: "Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 3" - You are limited to 3 days of multi player then you gotta buy a 'code' or enter the one that came with the game.. Its fine for those that Bought it, but MANY rent console games to test them out first.. well, renting it will not usually have the code in the box... and even if it did, the FIRST renter of the game probably got it and used it, making it useless for anyone else renting it. This new tactic is to stop the tide of Used game sales... I personally think its a nasty way to do business. If I am into a game, I WILL buy it. Just sucks at a time when everyone is hurting in the pocketbook... I mean, what are games going for now? $59.99 in the USA? "HOMEFRONT" - Limits you to level 5 in multi-player mode. so you can't unlock anything of use... you CAN play the entire single player game, which took me only a jokingly 2-3 hours to beat. I was actually shocked at how it left the game hanging.... on the golden gate. I was like 'whaaat?' Add your game that is 'Gimped' I just don't want to see someone else get disappointed and surprised they rented/bought used a gimped game... |

Not just EA console games. Their PC games do this too.:p
For a long time the games companies had managed to fool people into thinking limited installs, linking games to your account etc. where things they did to combat piracy. But that's not the case. They're really fighting the used game market. I think that's sad and borderline illegal. If I buy something, I should be able to decide what I do with it when I'm done, no? In the Dragon Age and the Mass Effect games you miss out on some characters/DLC/quests if you don't buy it new and redeem the one time code. But then again all those games are by EA.
