Question about glitchy Icewind Dale performance

I had mentioned a while back about how my gameplay screen was blacked out in parts and such, I found a solution to that problem by changing some of the game's settings. Easy as pie when I look back now and wonder why I didn't try that before! Anyway, now when I play, on some screens, the top of the screen is glitchy (ie some of the screen rapidly flashes from the correct display to another screen.) If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

Same advice as before. Video card drivers. What are you running? Are you using a video card, or are you just using the MB's onboard video? Does the problem occur with the game windowed or full screen?

Reason I ask is your glitchy window sounds like not enough RAM to drive the windows graphics properly.

Hey, thanks for responding so quickly. As for my video card (yes, it’s a video card, not the mb’s onboard video – a new ‘upgraded’ card too, I don’t know if that helps any). The card is NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+. When I game with IWD, I always have it on full screen – I can’t stand peering into a small window to play a game. I have 2046MB RAM. Are you running Vista? 64bit?

How big is your monitor? Is it a widescreen? If you are running a widescreen you may need a widescreen mod installed into IWD so it can handle the unusual resolutions.

You also may need to apply basic troubleshooting techniques. Start by running the game in a small resolution window. If it runs without the video glitch, then INCREASE the window resolution until the glitch appears. Make a note of which resolution the glitch appears. Report back with your data.

Well, I played with Icewind Dale for a bit, and found that the only real time the game glitches up on me is in character creation - I played some and found that there is no real disruption of sorts in game, just in character creation. Just thought I'd tell you. if you have in info on what to do about this minute glitch, please let me know - if I buy Baldurs Gate, I would certainly like to have it run smoothly (and yeah, BG is an old one, but I still want to give it a try). Baldur's Gate has all sorts of mods too, certainly BG2 does. Should be well worth playing.

The other day I was reading some posts in the Icewind Dale forum, and someone sent me a website that shows how to fix my re-occuring problem, but I dont remember what site I was told to visit. I think its like sorcerer.com or something close to that. I've been sifting through posts on this forum but haven't had any luck. BTW, I tried the video card suggestion, that didn't get me anywhere. Anyway, can anyone help me? Thanks!

BTW - the site I was told to visit - the Sorcerer or something close to it - had a download to fix a problem with my NVIDIA video card, so that my Icewind Dale doesn't go glitchy. Just wanted to let you know.

K, found out that the Sorcerer site isn't what I'm looking for -- Sorcerer had patches and all, but what I'm looking for was troubleshooting website, listed with a pic of some guy who offers computer advice on his forum. From what I read when I was there, this guy had fixed my problem (or so I think). I thought I had book marked the page but unfortunately I didn't. Bummer. Anyway, if anyone can help, let me know. p.s. sorry for posting three times in a row, I know that can get annoying, won't happen again.
